For the 8th year in a row, I’m excited to head up to New York City and cover The Makeup Show NYC!
The show will run May 6-7 at the Metropolitan Pavilion (click the link for more details on the logistics!) and if you are a makeup artist, attending The Makeup Show- if not in NYC, where it’s closest to you – is worth the admission price not only for the education and discounted products to fill your kit, but also the networking and the energy and passion I’ve never seen at any other trade show!
“The Makeup Show is THE place to be for any artist looking to advance their career, discover new trends and network with some of the greatest executives and brand owners in the industry,” said Shelly Taggar, owner of The Makeup Show, in an email. “It is a great place to come and get inspired and elevate your career. Due to the amazing and exclusive brands, as well as the 60 different education opportunities we have, there is so much to learn and experience and shop for your kit, There is no other event like this in the industry.”
The show tickets are $60 for one day, $80 for both days, and you can buy tickets here.
The education at The Makeup Show is, in my opinion, the best part about the show!
- Click here for a list of education opportunity on Sunday, May 6.

- (Click here for the agenda for the whole show, which includes workshops and events on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5, as well!)
There are keynote speakers, seminars, feature presentations, hands-on workshops (at a separate cost from your show ticket), and demos. Kevin James Bennett, for example – shown in the picture above doing an “in my kit” presentation at last year’s show – will be doing it again, sharing his take on trends and what makeup artists should carry in their kits.
The artists doing the demos and presentations are always amazing. This year I was excited to see makeup artist/photographer/product developer & educator Jordan Liberty; Influenster Founder Elizabeth Scherle; international makeup artist Roshar, and makeup artist/brand entrepreneur, Bobbi Brown.
Education will range from how to make your mark and build your brand, to trends and demos on achieving styles of makeup for your clients.
Some might say it’s top, but my second favorite aspect of The Makeup Show is the shopping!
Last year I actually worked on building my kit with the money I spent at the show. Then I got pregnant, and I lost the momentum I had going in starting to do makeup part time. I’m hoping to start again once we figure out our balance with two kids under three-years-old!
Anyway! Sometimes, brands release new product at The Makeup Show, and new brands big and small are always popping up on the floor plan. This year some of the newcomers include Marc Jacobs. Returning brands include Urban Decay. I counted about 96 brands slated to be there!
In terms of new goodies, Smashbox will have its Smashbox + Vlada collaboration products for sale, Inglot will have its Inglot x Jennifer Lopez collaboration, Make Up For Ever will have its Artist Color Pencils, Breakups to Makeup will have the Moises Ramirez x Breakups to Makeup collection, Danessa Myricks Beauty will have Vision Cream Cover Perfecting & Shaping Wands and Black Up will have the Jennie Jenkins highlighting palette on hand.
The networking is also amazing.
This is your opportunity to visit booths, meet brand owners, attend events with other artists and exchange cards. Seek mentors. It really is a great opportunity.
Saturday will be The Makeup Show’s third annual Beauty Brunch! Hosted by James Vincent, this event is a great way to mingle with fellow industry peers in a more intimate setting. Sip champagne and connect with the industry insiders. Celebrate the beauty business with brands, press and artists. You’ll get a gift bag full of the pro community’s favorite products!
This is Saturday, May 5th, 2018 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; there’s a $30 Registration Fee – CLICK HERE to register! I am unable to attend the brunch this year since my baby cousin is getting married at 3 p.m. that day, but it’s a fun event and a great place to mingle with artists of all career levels!
So, who will I see there?! Are you a pro? Have you ever been to The Makeup Show NYC?! If you’re going this year, I want to hear what you are most excited about! If you aren’t, what would you love the most?!
