I enjoy doing empties posts because it motivates me to finish products and use certain things up. I like to see the culmination of what I’ve used at the end of the month, and the act of purging the empty containers makes me feel like I’ve gotten my money’s worth of whatever I’ve emptied.
I’ve received comments regarding empties posts about the space empties take up, and areas to store what’s really, literally, trash!
So I thought you’d be interested in seeing how I store my empties, because I don’t use so much each month that the empty containers take up a ton of space. I thought it’d be surprising for you to see!
Each month I need the corner of a small cart to put aside what I’ve used. My empties are at the right front corner of this cart, in front of a nail accessory caddy, and next to the cotton balls. Not all my empties for March are shown here, just FYI, but you get the picture:
Now, when I have larger bottles/cans, sometimes I’ll pop my empties into the plastic shoe box that’s nearly empty, next to the empties and the caddy where I keep nail files, tools, top/base coats etc. This whole cart contains product ready for review, backups of products I use and other stuff. The plastic bags on either side, on the floor, hold photo props like flowers and backgrounds.
My empties don’t take up that much room each month, and I trash/recycle everything as soon as I’m done taking the photos and writing the post. Let’s hop into this month’s finished products!
Medela Tender Care Lanolin
I used this when I tried breastfeeding my first daughter. It is soothing. It tends to stain my nursing bras if I don’t wear plastic shields or nursing pads. Our hospital gives you a small tube of it after the baby is born, and with my first, I bought a larger tube at the baby store. This time, I received three small tubes of it from the hospital but after finishing this first one, I had a desire for a more organic solution. Based on other momma recommendations I picked up Earth Mama Organics Organic Nipple Butter. I am not sure how long I will continue breastfeeding, but something to soothe my sore nipples is a must. I can use both the Medela and the Earth Mama products as cuticle/dry skin moisturizers, too.
Would I repurchase? Probably not, since I do have two or three more mini tubes that the hospital sent home with me, and the nipple butter.
Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two-Day Extender
This aerosol dry shampoo smells good and does the job. It also gives me a little volume. I kicked a travel size, because I’d picked up several travel size dry shampoos at Ulta several months ago in search of my Holy Grail dry shampoo. None of the ones I picked up – this is the last travel size I’ve kicked – impressed me like Amika’s or Love Beauty & Planet’s dry shampoos.
Would I repurchase? Probably not. I have other dry shampoos that work great and are cheaper.
Urban Decay Primer Potion
I still had a container of this in the old genie bottle tubing. I couldn’t get anymore out of it with the doe foot applicator, and didn’t have a desire to do this, so I decided it was time to move on!
Would I repurchase? It’s my Holy Grail – yep!
Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar
I use one of these up every other month it seems.
Would I repurchase? Yes, already have!
Secret Sport Fresh Body Spray
I bought this thinking it would be a quick way to add fragrance to my body on hectic days without needing perfume. When I was pregnant, perfume was a bit too much for me at times. With alcohol as its first ingredient, I could not use this as a true scent. It is supposed to “eliminate odor,” and is designed for athletes. Well, if I can be totally real with you, I sweated like a whore in church during my pregnancy, and being overweight to start, I had a nice little apron of flab over my old (and now fresh) c-section incision scar. I used this in that area to help keep things fresh. Did it work? For a little while, sure. But not all day.
Would I repurchase? No.
Dior DiorShow Mascara
This is my Holy Grail mascara. I bought it the very last day of August last year while on a business trip in New York City, because I forgot to pack my mascara and I had a very important meeting the next morning. I found a local Sephora and treated myself. I had only ever used trial sizes of this mascara I’d gotten from Sephora, so purchasing the full size really was a treat.
It’s been seven months since I purchased it, and it was still going strong, although I am mindful of the three-to-six month rule for mascara use. A friend suggested I add one drop each of lavender, cedar wood and rosemary essential oils to refresh/sanitize the mascara. I don’t have rosemary, so I used lavender and cedar wood. Just those two drops of oil changed the formula, and forced my hand – I have to chuck it out. I’ll never do that again.
Would I repurchase? Yes, absolutely!
Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner in Blue
What else to say…I was sad when I used this eyeliner last week and it seemed normal as I lined my one eye, but it petered out and finished as I started my second eye. I have to order a new Blue, Dark Brown and Olive eyeliner!
Would I repurchase? Absolutely, Jesse’s Girl makes my favorite liquid eyeliner!
Unfinished Products Getting Tossed
Wet n Wild Photofocus Foundation in Rose Ivory
I like this foundation, but I finally have to face reality – it’s not a good color for me, it’s way too pale!
It’s affordable enough that when I need a new foundation, I can pick out a more appropriate shade for my skin tone.
Would I repurchase? Yes, in the right shade for my skin tone.
Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot Volum’/Express Waterproof Mascara
I really like this mascara – it’s the only waterproof mascara I owned so I need to replace it! It does everything – lengthen and adds volume without giving me panda eyes!
Would I repurchase? Yes, this is my favorite waterproof mascara at the moment.
Serenity + Scott Brow Gel in Golden Blonde
I love this Brow Gel. It takes my brows, gives them a little color, and maintains a natural look. I’m not an Instagram Brow kinda girl, so this is perfect for me.
Would I repurchase? Yes, except I already have a couple unopened stashed away and I’ll be opening one of those soon. At the moment I’m hoping to finish up a Senna Cosmetics Brow Gel.
