Independence Day is always an excuse to do something fun with my nails and makeup – bring out the red, white and blue everything!
This year, I thought I’d put together a post with some of the products that are essential for me to have a festive Fourth tomorrow! Whether it’s making sure my light, summer makeup stays in place, or a patriotic mani, these products are what I’m reaching for in preparation for tomorrow’s holiday!
Nails Nails Nails!
To be honest, nails are most important for me. I have to have a patriotic mani!
You all might know, since I’ve mentioned it in the past, that I sell Jamberry nail wraps. I picked up some of our festive holiday wraps in Hall of Fame (on the right) and Freedom Pops (Juniors wraps, left) so I could create a couple awesome spirited manis for the Fourth! While the Juniors wraps are meant for kids, I can still wear them! I just can’t get two nails out of one wrap.
One of my favorite parts about the nail wraps is picking what polish from my stash I’m going to use to complement them! I can’t give up my polish, but I love how easy the wraps make nail art for me these days.
For Hall of Fame, which was my mani all last week, I wore KBShimmer Latitude Adjustment (check out my review here to see a swatch of this by itself!). This beautiful blue is a stunner – in fact, we sold out of it at PolishCon in NYC this past April when I worked at the KBShimmer booth! Check it out on the nails:
Freedom Pops is my actual mani for tomorrow. It would go great with Zoya PixieDust Waverly Check out my review here for a swatch) or ILNP Mega (X)! I know I have a red in my collection that would go along perfect too, a PixieDust, I’m sure. But I wanted to reach for a couple of my untrieds!
What will you be wearing on your nails?
Lay Down the Base
Fourth of July means a pool party for my family. We’re headed to a friend’s house tomorrow. So I may not be wearing makeup during the day. I’ll likely wear my Oxygenetix Oxygenating Moisturizer.
But a quick change to go see fireworks? You bet I’ll be means I might wash my face, reapply the moisturizer and add Oxygenetix Oxygenating Foundation!
If you want to read more about this moisturizer and foundation, I wrote a thorough post about it a couple weeks ago here!
Make that Makeup LAST
Regardless of whether it’s day or night that I’m putting on makeup, the 4th of July is generally hot. When it’s hot, you need to help your makeup from melting off your face!
First and foremost: Mehron SkinPrep Pro. This stuff is awesome. I’ll have a full review on it soon, but basically you put some on a cotton round/ball, wipe it on places of your face where you don’t want sweat and breakdown to happen, and it helps your makeup stay intact!
It’s called a pre-makeup skin toner, but it’s also designed to hold up in stressful performance conditions – I wrote about it here the other week, about how Mehron was a pure pro brand that is now more broadly sharing its pro products with us!
Once I’ve applied SkinPrep Pro and my foundation, I’ll move to set everything with Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. I have heard rave reviews about this. It helps to mattify my makeup. While it’s something that I feel needs reapplication later in the day during wear – it’s recommended for normal to oily skin and mine can get very oily by midday – it really helps lock my look in place. I use it after foundation and before blush.
Finally, I need mascara that’s going to hold up and not give me raccoon eyes! Enter Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Waterproof mascara! See my review of this mascara here for more about why I like this mascara!
Lips and Lids
No patriotic holiday is complete without red cosmetic choices!
Or white and blue, yes. I know. But this year, I am DRAWN to the red! What about you?!
For eyes, I may do little else than to add a thin accent of Kryolan Red Eye Liner to my eyes, along the outside corner, to make them pop. This is a really great-wearing liquid liner in a bold, true red shade that dries matte and can hold up to sweat.
I’m still undecided on the liner, but if I don’t wear red eyeliner, I will definitely be wearing Bdellium Tools Matte Lipstick in Scarlett OH. This is a fun, bold, bright red lipstick that says “celebrate!”
When wearing a red lip, I might pair it instead with one of my blue eyeliner pencils, like Urban Decay 24/7 Deviant Eyeliner.
Scarlette OH on the left, Red on the right.
So there you go – my go-tos for tomorrow!
What products are a must for you to accessorize your Independence Day holiday?!
