Disclaimer: I bought this.
I like the Maybelline Baby Lips line. I think the glosses are fun, and the balms are nice.
So when I saw this new product iat the drugstore, Maybelline Baby Lips Color Balm Crayon in Playful Purple, I had to give it a shot. I probably could have held onto my willpower, but the purple of this lippie is too beautiful.
It’s such a bright, bold purple! I didn’t know if it would be as bold on the lips, because typically the Baby Lips products I’ve tried are focused on hydration, not pigmentation. I was pleasantly surprised at how pigmented it was!
The balm goes on glossy, too.
Here’s a lip swatch:
And of course, how I wore it:
I loved the glossy, hydrating feel of this colorful balm – and the color itself. I put it on around 10:15 a.m. Around 11:45 a.m., I noticed that it had feathered the slightest at parts of my upper and lower lips and I vowed next time I would not apply so much, and I would use an invisible liner. But I always try to review and wear test lippies without the invisible liner because if I can eliminate a step in my routine, I’m more likely to use a lippie.
Around 1 p.m., after I had eaten lunch, and we had driven home from an outing with our toddler at the Garden State Discovery Museum, my lips felt dry. I didn’t look in the mirror, though, to see how they looked post-lunch.
Our daughter immediately went into her room to continue the nap she’d started in the car, and I flopped onto our bed and took my own nap – I didn’t wake up until after 3 p.m.!
Imagine my surprise when I woke up, and my lips were still stained slightly purple, like a berry shade, from this Baby Lips balm!
We went out to the grocery store around 4 p.m. and I snapped a quick pic:
It is definitely faded and my lips were dry, but I liked that the color held on.
Bottom line, this lippie was hydrating for two or three hours but it did not live up to the brand’s description of “12 hours of hydration” whatsoever. I felt the hydration fading before I even ate lunch, as the balm wore.
It applied nicely and I loved how it stained after the balm was worn off.
I will probably not purchase anymore of these, because of the sheer volume of lippies I own in formulas that I prefer, but I am happy with Playful Purple and I’ll continue wearing it! I have no regrets on purchasing it! There are eight shades in the line.
Have you tried any of these balms? What do you think?
