I went to a wedding a couple weeks ago, and I decided to do a Valentine’s Day theme for my makeup and nails. I thought it’d be a fun look to recreate for a Valentine’s date, too!
For my nails, I wanted something a little flashy to offset the gold and silver studded neckline of the “little black dress” I wore. I decided to go with one of the Disney Collection by Jamberry nail wraps, Yes, Your Majesty ($18, and disclaimer, I am a consultant and I am paid commission for purchases). I paired it with a couple polishes that have been in my stash for a while, Milani Color Statement Modern Rouge ($4) and Black Cat Lacquer Trinity (from the brand’s Dexter-inspired collection a while ago).
I did my nails the Wednesday before the wedding. But for my makeup, I wasn’t sure until the day arrived what I would do. I sorta envisioned something with a tiny red heart at the end of my winged eyeliner.
Instead, I looked at the Kat Von D Pastel Goth palette, and felt inspired by Conversation Hearts!
So check out this tutorial for Conversation Heart eyes!
Here’s the look broken down by the numbers:
- I applied Meow from the Pastel Goth palette on the inner half of my lid
- I applied Dope from the Pastel Goth palette on the outer half of my lid
- I applied Star from the Pastel Goth palette along my crease
- I applied Clementine from the Pastel Goth palette along the lash line on my lower lashes, winging it out a bit
- I applied Doom from the Pastel Goth palette in the inner part of my crease, blended it with Star in the middle of the crease; I applied Skull to brow for highlight
- I added Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil in No M-16 (white) along my water line
- I added Ardency Inn Modster Smooth Ride Supercharged Eyeliner pencil in Hot Pink along my lashes; I added {Pink} Opal from the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette in the inner corner of my eye for highlight
- I used Maybelline Colossal Big Shot VolumExpress Waterproof Mascara on my upper lashes and Senna Cosmetics Lash Detail Mascara to my lower lashes. You can also tell I added Pixi Eye Zone Brightener under my eyes, as well!
For the rest of my face, I used:
- NYX Total Control Drop Foundation in Light all over face
- Jesse’s Girl Highlight & Contour palette to contour cheeks
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Moon Child Glow Kit (Pink Heart) on cheeks, bridge of nose, forehead
- Wet n’ Wild ColorIcon Metallic Liquid Lipstick in Days of Fuchsia Passed
- Lorac Cosmetics Baked Matte Satin Blush in Flaunt
- Serenity + Scott Brow Gel in Golden Blonde
Here’s the completed look:
Could it be better blended? SURE. But I experimented! And that’s why I wanted to share it here!
We had a wonderful time at the wedding and I loved my colorful, Conversation Heart makeup! Here’s my whole outfit, sorry it’s such a blurry pic! I snapped it quickly in the reception hall’s bathroom!
(My shoes are actually my own wedding shoes, holographic flats from Forever 21 about four years ago. The bag is a Rebecca Minkoff bag from again, probably three or so years ago. Dress is from Macy’s, purchased in 2015.)
And here is my own Valentine and I at the wedding, enjoying the reception in flash, after my lipstick wore off (this is not long-lasting liquid lipstick, by the way):
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone. Is this a look you would attempt? Do you like to find inspiration for your makeup looks or do you stick to the same routine?
