New! Milani Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow Pencils

Just like some people find using liquid eyeliner difficult, I find using stick and cream shadows difficult – I have a hard time blending them and they crease easily on my lids.

As you can guess, I went into testing out these new Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Eyeshadow Pencils by Milani Cosmetics with a very skeptical mind. The packaging on this new line of shadows promises that these are:

  • Water-resistant
  • Crease-proof
  • Long-lasting
  • For use as an eyeliner or eyeshadow

The new Shadow Eyez come in six colors:

Left to right: Green Safari, Aquatic Style, Royal Purple, Brown Deluxe, Winter White and Champagne Toast. Winter White is the lightest/sheerest coverage shadow, but it’s great as a highlighter. Champagne Toast is light, but not sheer. You can see from the swatches how vibrant the colors are – this picture is true to life!

Ok. So did they live up to the hype?

I was shocked at how much they lived up to the words on that packaging. So much so that I wore three in one day over Urban Decay Primer Potion, and when I wore the other three the next day, I skipped the Primer Potion – I NEVER shadow up without primer…these pencils are powerful!

Check out a look I did with Green Safari, Aquatic Style and Winter White:

I’m wearing these over the UDPP. I’m also wearing Milani’s Total Lash Cover Mascara and Full Coverage Lipstick in Barely There. (Reviews on these product coming soon!). My eyeshadow did not budge until I took it off nine hours later before going to the gym.

Here’s a look with Brown Deluxe, Champagne Toast and Royal Purple:

This is the look without the primer. Royal Purple as an eyeliner is stunning! I’m also wearing Milani’s Runway Lashes Mascara here and Glity Glamour Gloss in Show Stopper. Again, reviews to come soon.

Anyway – I applied this look around 7:30 a.m. and at 9 p.m. that night, it was still holding on strong. No creasing, looked good. Absolutely amazing, the hold that these shadows have.

These Eyeshadow Pencils sell for $5.99, exclusively at CVS.

I found that these set quickly. Sometimes during application, I found it a smidge hard to blend them. This could be user error. Like I said, I’ve never been good at blending cream and stick shadows on the lid. But compared with the liquids and sticks I’ve used in the past, what I was able to do shocks me, and I was pleased.

These were easy to use. They slid across my lids. No tugging or pulling at my skin. They worked just as well as an eyeliner as they did an eyeshadow. You do need a larger pencil sharpener for these, but most of mine are dual, so it’s not an issue for me. But be warned, in case you don’t have one! Milani has a Duo Sharpener, but I’ve not tried that. I use Urban Decay’s Grind House and something I bought a while back from Almay.

I did think these were a tad more difficult to take off than regular powder shadow over UDPP – It was like removing water-proof eyeliner. I just had to scrub more with my eye makeup remover than usual. Note to self: remove contacts before scrubbing eyeshadows off eye. *cough cough*

I took these bad boys with me to work, just in case I needed a touch up but I never once needed it. They stayed tucked safely in my purse, waiting to prove me and my skeptical mind wrong!

So what do you think of these pencils? I think that for $5.99, they are amazing. And I’m very interested in experimenting and trying to get application nailed, because I think they’re great for travel. Instead of brushes and pans and palettes, just throw pencils in your makeup bag.

I’d love to hear your thoughts below!!

(And yes, I know. It’s almost like I’m a freaking advert for Milani lately. They’ve just sent a lot of products to review and I want to share them with you – and my HONEST opinions on them! I hope you are enjoying. I’m cataloguing all related posts because they are all the new-for-2012 launch that Milani has done.)
