Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week got off to a creative start last week!
One of my favorite things to do during Fashion Week is try to recreate the cool nail art and manicures that hit the runways. It makes me feel like a part of the excitement of Fashion Week!
The first one I couldn’t wait to try was from the Nicole Miller show. CND’s Wanda Ruiz helped showcase parallel times to prove that “the past plays out in the present,” creating “Time Machine” manicures that were trippy and hypnotic. Wanda used CND Colours in Plumville, Electric Orange, Bicycle Yellow and Anchor Blue. CND suggests we can master this look at home with a toothpick (or a detailing brush) and some patience!
Saturday night I found myself with some spare patience, and time, so I attempted to recreate this mani, using the following:
From left to right is L’Oreal Jet Set to Paris, Milani High Speed Fast Dry in Jiffy Orange, Nubar Grape and Milani High Speed Fast Dry in Yellow Whiz.
I painted my nails with two coats of Grape, and topped it with Seche Vite. I waited for five to 10 minutes for it to dry. Then I got a small paper plate and toothpicks, and did first the yellow, then the orange and finally the blue swirls with a toothpick I filed a bit to get pointy.
Unfortunately, my Time Machine mani did not turn out as perfect as Wanda’s, and I didn’t even end up finishing my pinky finger. I finished four fingers, took pictures, and took it off! Here’s my not-so-masterpiece:
As you can see, my lines are way too shaky, I kind of dotted the color along as I swirled. My thumb is probably the only nail that looked halfway decent, if by halfway we mean “yikes.”
Regardless, I had fun trying out this mani! And I LOVE the photo at the top of this post.
Anyone else out there who likes to replicate the runway nail looks? What do you think of CND’s Time Machine mani? Will you try it?
