Of all the things I’ve been approached with to review, this makeup bag has got to be one of the coolest.
Simply-Bags.com is a specialty monogram and embroidery shop with personalized bags in a variety of types! You can get everything from an embroidered laptop tote to backpacks for school. It reminds me a bit of one of my current obsessions, Thirty-One.
I choose the bag I did because I have been looking for a proper cosmetics bag that I can use when I go on vacation or on work travel. (Of course, all this was concurrent with the Thirty-One party I had recently, and I actually ordered one when I had my party – Oh well. Better to have two than none?!)
Currently, this is what I use:
As you can see, a) it’s a throwback to the days when they gave gifts like this away in the exhibit halls at medical conferences. And b) it holds a lot of stuff, including Inglot Freedom System palettes and the Urban Decay 15th anniversary palette. I stuff tons of lipsticks, eyeliners, palettes, shadows and other makeup goodies into this bag when I travel.
While it’s huge, it’s also a pain in the butt. The way it unzippers, if you are not careful, stuff will fall out. It opens TOO much, which was what I liked about it at first. But it is a bit cumbersome, and definitely not meant to be a makeup bag!
The Cosmetics Bag from Simply-Bags is a nice nylon, cotton-quilted fabric, and sturdy. It has two outside pockets that velcro shut, and zipper closure for the main opening. It has an additional removable zip carry pouch sized at 9″ x 6″. The cosmetics bag is 11”W x 8”H x 7” across the bottom, and also includes an inside zip pocket and small side wall pockets.
It’s got handles:

(Oh yes, those are goodies I bought from Icing – new glitters! – and Bath and Body Works – new lip glosses!)

Close-up of the embroidery:
This bag comes in Kiwi, Chocolate and Fuschia. I chose Chocolate. The embroidery comes in 13 colors, and I chose Light Blue. I asked for “FOTD Inside” as my embroidered phrase, which those of us who are makeup addicts know stands for “Face of the Day.” Because, really, a makeup bag holds many faces of the day for many days!
I love this bag. The bottom is big enough where I can put a couple of my palettes there, and pile my lipsticks and everything else on top. I will definitely take a picture when I fill this up for my upcoming, 10-day vacation to Florida!
I was impressed with the bag, and went searching on the site to see what else they offer. I have to say, I love quite a few of the items as gifts for friends and family and I plan to do some shopping after vacation! There’s wine coolers and cases that you can have embroidered! I spotted Bridal/Bridesmaids gifts, too, and that will hopefully come in handy one day! You know, if Mike ever proposes. *sigh*.
A lot of the items I checked out seem to have free embroidering or monogram services.
I am also pleased with the polite interaction I’ve had with Bob, who runs Simply-Bags.com with his wife. Turnaround was very quick. Between ordering, processing and arrival, it was about five days, maybe six. I look forward to dealing with Simply-Bags again.
Have you ever ordered from this site, or ordered a personalized bag like this? What do you think? What would YOU have embroidered on the outside of this bag?!
