It’s This One Thing…! is about a product that is totally “wowing” me at the moment! Something I’ve discovered that I can’t live without, something that has made a difference in my skincare, haircare or beauty routine!
I have a new obsession that is totally portable, totally multi-functional and smells like peace and happiness: Smith & Vandiver, a brand that is new to me, sent me two of its All Over-Balms to try out – a Refreshing Moisture and Soothing Moisture balm. Here’s the one I tried first, the Refreshing Moisture All-Over Balm in Sweet Orange and Vanilla :
This scent is not overpowering, and although I hate orange-flavored and orange-scented things, the balance between the vanilla and the orange made it smell more like a scent I can’t quite remember that I smelled in my childhood. It makes me happy.
Here’s a shot of the balm before I started using it:
The size reminds me of a chubby lip balm. The key ingredients of the balm include shea butter, cocoa butter, beeswax, sweet almond oil, vanilla and sweet orange oil. The other balm I was sent, which I haven’t used yet, is a soothing moisture All-Over Balm, made with shea butter, cocoa butter, beeswax, sweet almond oil, neroli and lavender. It smells wonderful.
Putting It To Good Use!
I have had some trouble with my elbows recently. I’ve had rough dry patchs on them, and on my right elbow, it’s particularly painful as I tend to pick at it.
As soon as I received this All-Over Balm, I began using it a couple times a day on my elbows, just rubbing it in:
I’d rub the stick directly on my elbow, and then use my fingers to massage it into the rough skin.
After not even a day of using this, I noticed that it didn’t feel painful to lean on my right elbow, the one that is most affected by driness and cracking.
The difference this moisturizer has made is obvious to me – I received it as a trial in June, and as it’s now August, and I’ve been using it about a month and a half. It’s become part of my routine so much so that I forgot I need to review it!
I find myself carrying it in every purse, everywhere I go – sometimes in lieu of hand lotion – and reaching for it whenever my elbows feel rough. I’ve used it as a lip balm, all over my hands and on my cuticles!
This multi-use was particularly helpful when I had to get on a plane to go to Las Vegas – a stick of balm is better than carrying on the plane a separate cuticle cream, lip balm, hand lotion and body cream. I just carried this, and I didn’t even need to stick it in my liquids bag.
This All-Over Balm launched in February of this year and is available at grocery, chain drug and mass-market retailers, specialty stores and natural stores across the US. You can also find it online at www.synaturally.com (I haven’t purchased from this site, so I can’t make recommendations about customer service). It retails for $5.99.
For such a multi-use, moisturizing product, $5.99 is a hell of a deal!
Smith & Vandiver was founded in 1979 by Alida Stevens. Since its inception, the company has been making wholesome, cruelty-free products for children and adults that are safe and respect Mother Nature, according to press materials. It is paraben, sulfate and synthetic fragrance free; is not tested on animals and is sustainably manufactured.
This is something I will repurchase. Actually, I need to find the other one, because I’m well into the one I started using, and I want to make sure I have my back-up handy! I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I was happy this product worked for me!
