Just like I have favorite products for myself, I have products I use for my baby that I love! Some are new to me with Josie, while some are favorites I discovered when I had my older daughter.
Diapers and Wipes
Diapers and wipes aren’t necessarily “skincare” items, right? Maybe. But they touch my baby’s skin constantly. Newborns go through a LOT of diapers, especially in the first month!
I’ve used Pampers Swaddlers brand diapers since my daughter Lorelei was born nearly three years ago. There are so many diapers to choose from, that there really is no true rhyme or reason why I chose this type and brand over another, but I’ve been satisfied. In particular, they’re very absorbent overnight. I also find that “blow outs” are not a frequent occurrence – although unavoidable sometimes!
I’ve also found my childrens’ skin isn’t irritated by the material of these disposable diapers.
I also favor Pampers for wipes – I use the Pampers Sensitive wipes. They’ve never bothered my daughters’ skin, and I play it safe using sensitive wipes because I don’t yet know how sensitive Josie’s skin will be. All I know is I have eczema so it’s possible my children will be prone to the skin issues I deal with – My older daughter has already been treated for eczema.
Along the same line, I choose body wash/shampoo for both my girls based on their proven or possible sensitivity. For Josie I’ve tried Cetaphil Baby Wash & Shampoo.
This particular bath wash includes organic calendula, which has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. I’m very surprised that this wash, which is safe for sensitive skin – it is Cetaphil brand, after all! – has a scent to it, and it’s rather prominent. I smell it in Josie’s hair for a day or two after she has a bath. But it’s a beautiful clean scent.
In Between Bath Times
I don’t want to dry out Josie’s skin so I only bathe her a couple times a week, doctor’s orders!
I found a couple products to help keep my baby fresh in between bath times, for what I like to call “bird baths.”
First, Mustela No-Rinse Cleansing Water was a gift from a colleague at my work baby shower. I popped it into the diaper caddy and the first time I gave Josie a “bird bath,” I wet a small, soft wash cloth and wiped her down with this micellar water, including her hair. This has a pleasant scent; Josie smells so clean after and her skin responds well to it.
Honest Soothing Bottom Wash is an aloe-based spray meant for refreshing baby’s bottom. It also has witch hazel and botanical extracts.
I don’t use it often but I keep it in our diaper caddy and if Josie has a lot of diaper changes I’ll spray some on a wipe for added cleaning/soothing.
I don’t know if it’s refreshing for her but it certainly doesn’t hurt her skin and it is a gentle cleanser.
I picked this up randomly at Target. I love it but it isn’t a necessary buy, in my opinion.
So tell me! Do you have favorite newborn/baby products for your children,?! I’d love to hear what they are! If you don’t have children – do you have favorite products that you continually reach for, whether it’s for your furbabies, someone you take care of, or yourself?!
