Remember This?! Chi Midnight Rendezvous

Nothing to disclose

I loved your response to my attempt to incorporate some of the older nail polishes from my stash into a regular feature – Remember This?! A New Series Of Old Nail Polish!

It’s fun to walk down memory lane, and I figured this is something I can do a couple times a month, because I have lots of older stuff that I would love to reminisce with you about!

Today’s featured polish is at least nine- or 10-years-old! Do you even remember that Chi made nail polish?! (Updating post to add: Some belated Googling leads me to believe this polish is closer to 8- or 9-years-old…I can’t find much out there on it, but a blogger in 2010 included a marketing photo of the Secret Fantasy Collection this polish was part of!)

Introducing, Chi Ceramic Nail Lacquer in Midnight Rendezvous:

This polish says on the front “with Nano Silver,” and I have no idea what that means!!! So of course, I had to Google it…I found a listing for this polish on “Samsbeauty.com,” which included in the descriptor: “…Chi’s patented Chi 44 Ceramic, silk and Nano Silver ingredients.” I’ve never shopped on Sams Beauty, so I can’t make any recommendations but there are five shades of this polish clearanced at $1.99 a piece. (Midnight Rendezvous is not one of the shades.)

Personally, I bought this back in 2009 or 2010! I picked up two other colors, as well, and I still have one other; I think the one I donated/gave away was a red named Martian Red but don’t quote me on that!

Over time, the rubberized cap on this lacquer has gotten tacky – something I hate about Nars’ rubberized packaging, too. It attracts dirt and the cap felt uncomfortable as I painted my nails holding it.

Speaking of which! Check it out on the nail!

It’s such a pretty, bright and happy blue hue!

It came off very easily after two days of wear.

So that’s it for today’s throwback! Tell me, did/do you own any Chi Nail Lacquer?! I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

I didn’t even know that Chi made nail polish! How cool is that? I’m loving this shade on your nails.

Wow 10 years ago! Does nail polish expire? I usually just toss mine. Great series for your blog

I’m copying my response to Jen since you asked the same: From my own research (and I’d always recommend someone do their own if they are uncomfortable or question safety!) polish does not expire; the issue isn’t that it will harbor bacteria (apparently it can’t due to the chemicals), the issue is that after its open, some ingredients can evaporate. That makes it thicker and yes, you can use thinner to even it out; but personally I don’t do that to polish, if it’s gone thick I get rid of it. This polish in particular was not even separated after all that time! I just shook it a bit and it applied like it was off the shelf yesterday.

So nail polish never expires I take it? Or it just gets thicker but you thin it out?

I did have some Chi polishes that were red. For a long time I only bought red polish and they had some pretty shades.

    • BeautyJudy

They were very pretty! I remember thinking it seemed gimmicky that they were launching nail polish but they put out a nice product for the time they did it!

  • Lola Seicento

Wow, hat is such a gorgeous blue polish! I can’t believe that it is 10 years old!

    • BeautyJudy

It might be 9, lol. I can’t recall when exactly I bought it but it was several years ago! The formula held up very well!

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

Wow, is that gorgeous blue really 9 or 10 years old? I just found one of my old faves & it had separated (probably 5 or 6 years old). I hate to toss it coz it’s such a pretty summer shade

    • BeautyJudy

Yes! I’m pretty sure it is, I am pretty sure I got it when I worked there! I have some OPIs in my collection that are even older and still good.

I didn’t know Chi ever made nail polish. That’s a lovely sophisticated blue that would look smashing for evenings out.

    • BeautyJudy

Yes! Ulta carried it, but I don’t remember seeing it there long!
