December Empties!

December empties on beautyjudy

December always feels like a month where you’re nearing “the end” and heading into a fresh start in January. So it felt appropriate to use up so many of my products last month!

Lots of skin/hair care products, but I’ve added a new sort of category here. Vitamins. I am evolving BeautyJudy in the coming weeks, and part of that evolution will be to include content that combines the three big areas of my life – career, motherhood and makeup! So I decided it makes sense to incorporate “empties” from those other two areas of my life where appropriate. Stay tuned for the changes to come as I work towards my 9th blogging anniversary next month!

Here’s the 10 products I used up last month – what empties did you slay in December?!

Alive! Prenatal Gummy Vitamins

For some strange reason, through all my nausea in my first trimester, I could not bear the idea of swallowing a prenatal vitamin. So I ate gummy prenatals. I can’t recall the brand I initially used, but they seemed to have a sugar coating and tasted like candy. These Alive! Prenatal Gummy Vitamins do not have that coating, and they’re a little denser than I was used to but that wasn’t what turned me off – they smelled so strongly of vitamin that I had trouble eating them and skipped taking my prenatals a bunch in my second trimester. I finally finished them and moved onto something a bit more similar to what I had initially. I could probably go back to prenatals in pill form, but the gummies are like a nice sweet treat at the end of the day, after dinner. Plus, my daughter takes gummy vitamins, and oftentimes I get her to eat them by taking mine with her!

Would I repurchase? No – I have trouble with the smell!

The Creme Shop Peppermint Oil Infused Face Mask

I reviewed this mask here, so I won’t go into all the details! It’s a one-use mask, so it was a very quick “empty” to accumulate! This mask was refreshing and I love cheap, at-home pampering for my skin!

Would I repurchase? Yes!

L’Oreal EverPure Sulfate Free Frizz-Defy Shampoo and Conditioner

Back in October I wrote about finishing a similar shampoo and conditioner here in that month’s empties post! At the time, I reported that I’d already bought back-ups, but it turned out to be the wrong type. This month, I used up the wrong type and liked it, as well! I can’t say for sure if this is totally frizz-defying, because I have taken to using product in my hair to embrace my wave, clipping my bangs away from my face. So whether the control comes from the Shea Moisture hair product or the shampoo and conditioner, I can’t be sure. But I do have another set already in my shower.

Would I repurchase? Yes, already did!

Dove Antiperspirant Spray in Grapefruit & Lemongrass Scent

I frequently – maybe every other month or every month – finish up a Dove Antiperspirant Spray. After finding out I was pregnant, I tried to switch to a natural deodorant alternative. It worked HORRIBLY for me. So I went back to my favorite, reliable spray.

Would I repurchase? Yes! Although I chose to use up a Secret Clinical Strength next, I still have a couple sprays in my bathroom closet on tap!

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in Classic Ivory

I reviewed and raved about this foundation and it’s since become my top choice for what I use everyday among the handful of foundations in my rotation.

Would I repurchase? Heck YES. Already have a new one in rotation.

Laura Geller Lip Strip Smoothing Sugar Scrub

So here’s an “empty” that’s not really empty. I have tried to use this lip scrub for months, and I really don’t like it. It’s more like they took some sugar and threw it in with a super thick balm. So when I use it, my lips feel really overly greased vs. exfoliated. I’d rather use a drier lip scrub and a lip balm than a product like this. After trying to use it up for months, I decided to give in and toss it, especially since I discovered a lip scrub I’m enjoying much more. I love Laura Geller makeup, but this is just a miss for me!

Would I repurchase? No.

Ulta Beauty Exfoliating Quilted Round Cotton Pads

While doing some shopping at Ulta, I needed cotton rounds. Since the store brand was on sale, I picked up a couple packages. I didn’t read the label right – instead of straight-up cotton pads, I bought exfoliating pads, which have one side that’s tightly quilted and another side that’s soft. I have tried to use the exfoliating side on my eyes but it definitely hurts a bit! So I went through these quicker because I could only use one side to remove my eye makeup. I did, however, use the exfoliating side with my micellar water to remove my makeup all over but because the pad is small, I had to go through two or three of them for that purpose.

Would I repurchase? Perhaps, but not for removing my eye makeup!

Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Shampoo

I received a travel size bottle of this shampoo with a recent Target Beauty Box order, and used it to help me finish my L’Oreal Frizz-Defy Conditioner that I still had left – why do we always seem to finish our shampoo before our conditioner?! Anyway, it was the perfect amount to help me kick the tube of L’Oreal, and kick a travel size that I wouldn’t have traveled with, anyway. I thought it was a nice scent, and my hair felt nice using it but it didn’t make any grand impressions on me and I much prefer a shampoo that lathers up well – even though I know that doesn’t matter, it’s just a preference, and this one didn’t later as easily as my Frizz-Defy.

Would I repurchase? No.

Dove Shower Foam Shea Butter with Warm Vanilla

I received samples of this body wash and finishing this one up finishes my stash! I love the clean, warm scent of this and the light clean from the foam.

Would I repurchase? Yes! But I have a bunch of shower gels I need to use up first!
