There is something on my long-term bucket list that I hope to cross off before I die:
- See the Northern Lights in person, in Norway.
Well, I have no idea when it will be possible for me to see the lights in person but I used the lights as inspiration for my collaboration with KBShimmer!!
I’m over-the-moon to announce KBShimmer Northern Frights, one of 14 new polishes in the KBShimmer Fall Collection and one of 12 blogger collaboration shades launching first at Polish Con, THIS WEEKEND, then in October online (keep reading for purchase deets)!
Northern Frights is a complex, shifty shade that KBShimmer calls “aurora borealis in a bottle.” The polish is filled with holo flakes, a base that shifts from emerald green to indigo purple to navy. It’s also part of the debut of KBShimmer’s new five-free nail polish!
I decided on the name Northern Frights because it’s a play off of, of course, Northern Lights, and Halloween time – which is one of my favorite holidays!
The nighttime sky is special to me. The best way I can explain it is that it grounds me. I often turn up to the night sky when I am going through a life change, a day-to-day challenge, or even a moment of happiness and thankfulness. I look up, and I look around, and for the moments or however long I’m gazing, the sky is all I see, and it’s vastness really captures me. It brings a quiet to me that I really can’t explain. It simply brings me peace. I have laid on the hood of my car for an hour, watching meteor showers. One year, I asked Mike to venture with me further south from where we lived in New Jersey to chase after less light pollution – just so I could see the mid-November Leonids more vividly.
I have a tattoo on my left inner wrist of the constellation Cassiopeia, to remind me to look up and find my way when I need to. She is the first thing my eyes search for when I tilt my head up and back.
I’m not good at math, so I barely squeaked by my astronomy class senior year of college, but I am so grateful for what the education opened up to me.
But enough with the blah blah blah inspo….I have a TON of pictures to capture Northern Frights in different lighting…
I am grateful for the opportunity to provide inspiration for a color, but the credit for the formula and finished product is all Christy and Jason and company! They did an amazing job taking my inspiration picture and turning it into something that looks like a magical star-speckled nighttime sky in a bottle.
I would share the photo here that originally inspired the polish, but I respect copyrights. So instead, I’ll provide this link here, which is a link to a Google search for “green and purple northern lights.”
Northern Frights looks opaque and sparkly in two coats. I’ve used it with KBShimmer Clearly On Top top coat, and Zoya’s Naked Manicure system. KBShimmer’s top coat gives it more of a glossy, smooth finish. It removes pretty normal, it doesn’t require the work that a glitter might. I removed it twice with Zoya Remove+.
Northern Frights will be available, as mentioned, at Polish Con this coming weekend in Chicago! The official release date for online sales is Friday, October 13 – HOW FUN!!!! Friday the 13th!!! I will also be hosting a giveaway for two bottles of this color here on BeautyJudy – stay tuned for that post this week!
This polish brings together two of my loves. My love of the nighttime sky, and my love for nail polish. I was a fan of KBShimmer long before I started working with the brand, and I am very, very excited to have gotten the opportunity to do this collab with the team alongside some of the most amazing bloggers and IGer’s I’ve seen.
What do you think of Northern Frights?! Have you seen any of the other collab polishes yet?! Stay tuned, I will post the rest of the collection as soon as the other bloggers have had a chance to reveal their shades, as well!
