I bought this.
I didn’t know Macy’s had a Beauty Box subscription service until this summer. So I signed up, figuring, for $15, why not? I buy makeup and beauty products from Macy’s and like many of the brands.
Above is the first box I received with my subscription – August’s box. Included was:
- Tarte Maracuja Oil (Full size, $48, travel size $16)
- MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara (Full size, $23, “little,” $10)
- Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Shadow Duo (Full size Palette, Golden Hour: $29)
- Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser (16 oz, $36, 8 oz, $24 and 3 oz, $11)
- Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel (Full size, $24; mini, $12)
- Carolina Herrera Good Girl Eau de Parfum sample (2.7 oz, $115 and 1.7 oz, $90)
Everything came in a cute domed, copper bag that says “The In Crowd” and has makeup products painted on it. It’s a bit small for everyday use so I’m not sure if I will keep it.
I dug right into the MAC mascara sample, and LOVED it. Each bag comes with a coupon for your next beauty purchase, and I should have remembered that instead of going to buy the full-size tube at a MAC store that was in the same mall as Macy’s! But that’s OK – the coupon is good for two months so I have until the end of September to redeem it!
I tried the Smashbox Cover Shot duo, and found the shadows to be pigmented and easy to work with. Score!
Here’s the mascara and the shadow duo:
I tried Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel and wasn’t impressed. The shade, a brown, would work for me but I found that it didn’t get a lot of product on the sample brush and it just didn’t seem to do anything for me. I tossed it.
I am saving the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser to try when I am done the cleanser currently in my shower, but have a feeling I’ll like it. Probably not enough to buy the regular size, though, when I have so much facial cleanser to use up.
I spritzed myself with the perfume sample from Caroline Herrera, and it’s not my cup of tea. I was careful to spritz lightly, as I’m not generally drawn to richer, darker scents that have ingredients like jasmine or cocoa. This one also has tonka, almond and coffee. It’s a unique and interesting scent but not one I would purchase.
I have tried Tarte Maracuja Oil in the past as a moisturizer for my face and loved it. I find the trial size handy for travel, and haven’t opened it yet.
I consider this month’s box a good use of $15, because I got to try a mascara I loved, got a cute shadow duo, a cleanser I know I will use, a travel oil and perfume sample. The only miss here for me was the Benefit brow product.
I already have September’s box, so as soon as I dig into it I’ll write up a post about that, too!
