August Empties!

I bought this.

August Empties on BeautyJudy 2017

Why hello there!

It’s been a sporadic few weeks for me and BeautyJudy. I struggled a great deal with first trimester nausea and fatigue, which meant after work and family, I had very little left over to give to anything else in my life. I am officially in the second trimester now, and on Saturday, I was up til 11 p.m….holy cow, I felt like a rock star because usually I’m in bed at 8:30. NO. LIE!!!

Still taking antinausea meds, but at least it’s helping me feel good.

Anyway, now that I’m getting my second wind, I can’t wait to dive back into blogging. I have a PILE of stuff to share with you, but this had to be a priority. I’m a little late on sharing my August empties but I personally love these types of posts on other blogs, so I didn’t want to skip last month’s!

In August, I flew through some hair care products! Actually, I didn’t fly through them. That Frederic Fekkai Marine Summer Hair has been embarrassingly in my stash since I worked at Ulta. I believe I left Ulta in 2009….

Anyway! Let’s get to it!

Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar

Do I need to talk about this one? Nope. I mention it every month, lol. It’s a staple…good for body and face…I use one every month…

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Frederic Fekkai Marine Summer Hair

I bought this probably eight years ago as I tried to embrace my hair’s crazy attitude about curls and waves. My hair is curly underneath, wavy in the middle and straight or slightly wavy on top. WTF? So I use a variety of hair products to embrace the wavier side, trying to get the top to match the middle, and just saying “eff it” to the underneath that’s curly, lol! Anyway. Marine Summer Hair smells like summer – like you’re on the beach, oiled up, rockin’ a bikini in your killer body, tan, with a million dollars in your account. I don’t know…I guess it just smells that good to me, lol! The scent of this stuff makes me feel amazing. It also does a nice job at giving me that wavy, off-the-beach hair.

Would I repurchase? Probably not. The smell is awesome but I love my Beach Waves Sea Salt Styling Spray from  LEH Soap Company – and it’s much cheaper.

Not Your Mother’s Naturals Coconut Milk & African Marula Tree Oil High Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

In my first pregnancy, I developed an aversion to the shampoo and conditioner I used during my first trimester, which had monoi oil in it. The scent of this reminds me of those products and while I’m not averse to the scent in this pregnancy, I’ll say it smelled more wonderful to me when I bought it (and wasn’t pregnant yet) than after going through weeks of constant nausea. The shampoo and conditioner did a nice job, though. My hair felt nice.

Would I repurchase? Since I enjoyed the performance of the products, I will repurchase from the brand but not these products specifically.

Smashbox 24-Hour PhotoFinish Shadow Primer

I don’t remember buying this. It’s been in my stash a while, and I don’t know where it came from. But when I rediscovered it hiding out in my eyeliner/brow/primer drawer, I decided to use it up. I finally did in August! My Holy Grail primer is Urban Decay Primer Potion, and this comes close. The tube went a long way, and I found shadows were vivid and wore well all day.

Would I repurchase? I’m unsure. It did a nice job but I have a couple other primers in rotation, and would likely repurchase the Urban Decay product or even Jesse’s Girl’s primer before this one.

Ion Shaping Plus Finishing Solution

I don’t use a lot of hair spray. I used to, when I was younger. Oh boy, did I have some 90s hair in high school. But now, I prefer the wavy, natural look. I hardly ever even blow dry it or straighten it, although I prefer my hair straightened. Anyway. I have gone from large canisters of hair spray to trial sizes, since I don’t use as much. Mostly for fly-aways when I have a ponytail.

Would I repurchase? Yes. It’s inexpensive (I think I saw it for $2.99 at Sally Beauty!) and it lasted me quite a while.

And that’s it! My August Empties! Anything that you like among these used-up products?! What did YOU use up in August?

It must have been hard to finish a product that pregnancy won’t let you….I’m not pregnant, I want to smell those so bad!!!!

    • BeautyJudy

I had to mentally prepared myself for the smell, lol. But luckily, I don’t wash my hair everyday so it takes me a while to run through hair care products!

I haven’t seen that particular Not Your Mothers line, I’d like to try it!

    • BeautyJudy

      It’s great!

It takes me so long to use up an eyeshadow primer. I’m at the tail end of one from Too Faced but it never seems to be empty. With haircare I can love the fragrance and then weeks later dislike it.

    • BeautyJudy

You are so right. I felt like I was at the end of this one FOREVER!!! I have so many others in flight, but I was determined to finish one, lol!

I’m glad that you’re feeling better, now. morning (or as I had it, all freaking day) sickness is no fun!

    • BeautyJudy

Yeah, it was constant. I had to take a week off work, and I basically slept and tried not to throw up the entire time, except the day I made myself go out and be adventurous, lol!

I’m glad you’re feeling better now, Judy. Nausea is no joke. I’m curious about the Jesse’s Girl primer. I have used UD Anti-aging Primer Potion for years, but I don’t like the applicator that they added and they changed the formula. Marcia gave me a travel size of the old formula, but when I finish that up, I’ll be looking for a new brand. I like Milani eyeshadow primer, but now I’m intrigued by you mentioning Jesse’s Girl. Does it have an applicator or is it a squeeze tube? I know you don’t have dry skin, but does it feel drying?

    • marciaf

Allison I’m pretty sure the Jesse’s Girl is a wand. I bought it and have no clue where it is but Lisa reviewed it once.

      • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

You’re right, Marcia. I just looked it up on their website. No to wands for me. I am using the UD AA PP that you sent sparingly to make it last. I’ll probably go back to Milani that comes in a regular tube.

        • BeautyJudy

I’m late to the party, Allison, lol! Yes, it’s a wand. No, it doesn’t feel tight/dry or tacky. I usually do one swipe on each eye and then use my finger to blend it in. I am not particular about wand/squeeze tube. But for performance and price, when I ever run out of primer, IF ever, lol, I will likely go with JG because of price (savings is more than half the cost of others!) and I have to start looking at ways to save $$ with the new baby! 🙂

Well done on finishing up a primer! I have so many in rotation that none of them ever gets used up LOL.

    • BeautyJudy

Ha, yes! I have about three UD primers in motion, a Lorac primer…Jesse’s Girl. It’s insane!
