Lip Top Coats seem to be a new thing. At first I thought these were just glitzy lip glosses and rolled my eyes at the industry for making something old a new thing, but these are a little different. At least from what I expected. Basically they’re sheer (or pigmented, depending on the brand/type of top coat) and some dry matte.
Although I’ve already been wearing a lot of toppers, from Jouer to Urban decay, this one, Stila Glitterati Lip Top Coat in the shade, Ignite, was my first!
I was leisurely wandering around Ulta several weeks ago and I swatched this on my hand, gasped, and put it in my shopping basket.
Ignite is a gorgeous berry pink glitter topper…just check out the pics and warning, the last two are blurry to show off the microglitters:
Isn’t this pretty? It also fits in with the metallic lip trend, too.
I thought, let me try this over a pink lippie. So I whipped out Ofra Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Utopia:
This is stunning on its own, but I thought, let me see what Ignite does to it.
If anything, Ignite added a touch of darker pink to Utopia, and made my lips more metallic and sparklier when the light hit them. It wasn’t so overdone that I felt like I had glitter lips walking around It was actually pretty subtle and nice.
This wasn’t a big color difference so I hit up my stash. Could Ignite make a more visible difference if I tried it over something else? So I whipped out my Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Conspiracy, a dark burgundy brown with golden shimmer (this color seems SO much more complex than I’m making it sound, it’s STUNNING) and I let it dry on the back of my hand.
Then, I swiped Ignite over it – right is plain Conspiracy and left is with ignite. Bottom is Ignite search for reference:
Ignite definitely changed Conspiracy into a new lippie!
The packaging on Ignite says you can layer it or wear it alone. I don’t think I’d want to build it up to wear it alone, since it dries matte. But to each their own!
A usage tip: Shake this up before you apply it! The color of the formula will settle at the bottom, so give her a good shake and you’ll be good to go.
Glitterati Lip Top Coat also comes in the shade, Transcend, described as a pink, mutli-color sparkle on the brand’s website.
I purchased mine at Ulta. It retails for $22 on the Stila website, although Ignite is out of stock.
Have you tried any lip top coats yet?! What do you think of this trend?!
