Proof that I was once super blonde, naturally
I can’t believe it’s April already! My 40th birthday is next month which means this is my last monthly update; I do my project final recap on my birthday – May 12!
I’m glad I kept the pressure low on this milestone project. Because I suck at knocking off these bucket list items! If I do this again for my 50th, I’ll be sure to give myself a year, because on average I do anywhere from two to five items a month.
This month I did three of my four list items and I’ll talk about two. The third is that I’m continuing to use up my cosmetic samples (you see that in my empties post!).
So off we go!
Take my daughter to Adventure Aquarium
Because I wanted this 40 before 40 journey to be about experiences as much as it was accomplishing 40 things I’d either never done before or hadn’t done in a while, I put a couple of “adventures” on the list with my daughter. One of them was to visit the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, N.J.
The beginning of last month, we did just that – the three of us headed to the Camden waterfront, taking in a variety of sea creatures and even entering the shark tunnel where it felt as if you were inside the tank, sharks swimming right at you and above you.
My little girl was a sponge, soaking in all the sights and curious about everything she saw. Watching her experience jelly fish, sharks and sting rays, and process everything, was a joy, and we passed a couple hours wandering around pretty quickly.
Within five minutes of leaving the aquarium, she was fast asleep in her car seat. For her, it was a full morning and early afternoon of learning and seeing new things, and while I’ve been to aquariums plenty of times, watching her experience some things for the first time made the experience special.
I am always sifting through my makeup and nail polish stash and evaluating – do I really need to keep this? I decided to add this to my 40 before 40 list because I felt it was time to not just “sift,” but to truly roll up my sleeves and decide – do I really need three containers full of palettes? And then eliminate a container’s worth of palettes.
This month I got rid of three shopping bags packed with all kinds of eye products and lip products that were used. I did narrow my palettes down to two containers. I also have a bag of new things that I want to drop off at or send to a women’s shelter in my area, I have to look that up!
It feels good to sort through and be really honest about whether you’re going to use that random eye shadow trio ever again, and you toss it. I haven’t gone through my nail polish in a hot minute, because the walls in my beauty office are under construction and all the containers are in the middle of the room. It’s been that way now for 1 1/2 years but if we do anything next it’s finishing the walls in the family room so…beauty office is a mess and will be staying a mess for a while. Anyway. I’d like to go through everything and I know by the time I hit my nail polish again, it’s likely going to be brutal.
Everyone have a wonderful week and I’d love to hear in the comments – what’s a recent experience you had that you enjoyed?
