Disclaimer: I bought this.
In December, I put together a holiday look column for the newspaper that I freelance with, choosing to detail both splurge and budget beauty items. As part of that effort, I picked up a Hard Candy Metallic Mousse liquid lipstick at Walmart. It was a spontaneous purchase, and I had a little trouble picking just one. So I picked three – story of my life, I can’t go ANYWHERE and not find something beauty-related I want!
Anyway. I’ve been a fan of Hard Candy since its relaunch at Walmart, and I have to tell you – these lipsticks do not disappoint. They are on trend, and they are on point.
They even come in this adorable tin holder with a mirror on the inside. The tube is slim and easy to pop into your jeans pocket or your crossbody bag. If you’re like me and you carry a behemoth of a bag, the tin is perfect to help it stand out among the clutter inside!
I’ll do a little blurb and some pictures of each one, then a hand swatch of all of them before finishing my review. Check them out!
I put on Sandstorm at 8 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., it was still clinging to my lip, not dry, and didn’t need a touch up. This was after drinking coffee, eating breakfast and lunch, drinking water and soda. How amazing is that?! Five and a half hours! Now, this shade is the type of shade that wears nicely; it’s not a bold red or purple that shows wear on the inner lip as soon as greasy food touches your lips. But still. Color me IMPRESSED.
This is how it looked after four, four 1/2 hours of wear:
Satin & Chenille
Satin & Chenille is such a pretty pop of light, metallic pink. It’s part of the Hard Candy Trolls collection, with a special tin to hold the lippie. I thought the formula on this one wasn’t as pigmented as my experience with Sandstorm or Truffle below this, and it wore a little less longer than the others. I still thought it looked nice and I love frosty pinks! One thing that stinks about this is that the name of the color is on the tin, but not on the tube. The names are on the other two tubes.
Truffle is a gorgeous metallic mauve. I thought this one suited me best. This one wore very similar to Sandstorm.
Here’s swatches of all three colors on the back of my hand:
Left to right: Satin & Chenille, Truffle and Sandstorm.
These lippies are $6 at Walmart. You can find them here on the Walmart site, as well. They’re a great way to get on the metallic lip trend, and I was super impressed with the wear I got from Sandstorm and Truffle. I could take or leave Satin & Chenille. I saw an end-cap display of Trolls-themed makeup over the holidays in Walmart, where I picked that one up; I think this is a limited edition collection so you might not find it with the other Metallic Mousse lipsticks.
Have you tried the Metallic Mousse line from Hard Candy? Based on my experience, I’d like to get more of the core line!
