Last month I introduced my 40 Before 40 intentions. This month I wanted to give some insight into my attempts at accomplishing all these things!
I also wanted to note that after I made the decision to do this and started talking about it on social media and with friends and family, I was encouraged by the responses I heard and read! It really built my excitement for this project!
Overall, I made a little progress, especially in the area of “experiences.” But it’s February, and my birthday is in May, and the list of 40 isn’t even completed! Nice thing about this? It’s no pressure. It’s something fun to do to get me to this milestone, and to approach it with a light heart. So let me get into some of my bucket list items from this month!
Also, I’d love to hear in the comments if you have done something like this and if something like any of these accomplished things would be on your list?
Take my daughter to Garden State Discovery Museum
In the above photo, my daughter and I are at a mock ice cream cart and she’s putting rubber scoops of ice cream on a fake cone. She’s blurry, because she’s constantly in motion!
In all honesty, this was a low-hanging fruit activity to put on my list. I knew it would happen sooner rather than later.
But what made me put this on my list was the experience for me as much as the experience for my 18-month-old-at-the-time daughter; I knew I would feel so much joy watching her explore new surroundings completely designed for children to play and touch.
My favorite moment at the museum was interacting with her as she played in the flower garden located inside the 4-year-old-and-under area. I picked up a squirrel puppet, stuck it on my hands, and started to tease her with it, pretending to have the squirrel eat the flowers, and nibble her hands. She shrieked and giggled and laughed and ran away, and came back. She was having SO much fun, and my heart melted watching her happiness! If that could be a thing, a heart melting…Mine does every time she hugs, kisses, looks and smiles at me.
THIS is why it was on my 40 before 40 bucket list. Because for me, the experience of my child’s happiness is worth more than any spa day I could aspire to have!
(Side note: However, there’s a spa day on my list. Just sayin’.)
Book a Girls Weekend!
(Photo Credit: Polish Con, saved from the Facebook group)
I’m in need of a girls’ weekend. Time with friends, no toddler, no husband. Let me have my girlfriends and some good laughs and good times! I got my VIP ticket to Polish Con 2017 in Brooklyn, NYC.
I am ridiculously excited to spend time with my nail buddies, including Krystal from Polish Galore! I’m also going to be working the KBShimmer booth, I’m not sure what shift, but I hope you’ll come by and say hi!!!
Giving Back Once a Month
This month I made one of my 40X40 bucket list items a family affair!
Our daycare does a philanthropic act every month, and in January we collected coins towards a pancreatic cancer fund in honor of one of the fathers of one of the teachers. My lil bit has two piggy banks – one we deposit coin into for fun spending, and one we deposit coin into for her savings account. We took a little from both of her piggy banks, and added it to all of the coin that I had saved up, and all the coins my husband had saved, and we donated to the cause.
We sat on the floor in my daughter’s room and she helped us put the coins from the floor into the jug, and when we took it to her school, I sat her on the counter and told her what we were doing and why it was important as I poured the coins into the larger donation bucket. She’s only 19-months-old, so I’m not sure she understood much, but it’s important to me that she understands and learns how to give back from the get-go.
I want her to grow up giving back, so that she doesn’t have to put it as a 40X40 item on her bucket list, because it will already be second-nature to her to give back. Hopefully at the end of this, it will be for me, too.
Hopefully in February I’ll have more checked off my list, and my list will be completely filled out!
