Hello Kitty – 40 is looking FABULOUS on you, darling.
Sanrio – well known for the famous pop icon above – and ColourPop Cosmetics celebrated the girly, red-bowed cutie’s 40th birthday by launching the ColourPop x Hello Kitty collection on November 1st, complete with sweet picks for eyes, cheeks and lips.
ColourPop has done some great smaller collaborations with popular vloggers/bloggers and influencers, but its Hello Kitty collab is the most expansive effort to date.
At an event in New York City last week to celebrate the launch, I asked ColourPop President and Founder Laura Nelson why Hello Kitty. “Why NOT Hello Kitty?” She said, laughing. She called it a dream collaboration – I can see why! I grew up with Hello Kitty, I’m in love!
Here she is in front of the table that had multiple sets of the collection for various press to sample and photograph:
“It’s such an iconic brand with such a great fan base and followers,” she said, adding that ColourPop and Hello Kitty have many of the same values – including fun and accessibility.
“ColourPop’s nontraditional approach is aligned with Sanrio’s philosophy of bringing unique products and experiences to our fans,” said Jill Koch, Sr. VP of Brand Management and Marketing at Sanrio Inc., in a press release. “Our collaboration brings together an exclusive collection of cosmetics that offers a wide range of on-trend colors inspired by Hello Kitty’s supercute world.”
How girly and bold do these colors look?
I swatched everything on my hand, but I’ve got a couple close-ups, too, and a review of the ColourPop x Hello Kitty Face Kit. I had some lighting issues at the event, and this one is a bit blurry but check out these swatches of the three Lippie Stix in the collection:
Left to right: Let’s Play (a cranberry lightly dusted with hot pink pearls in a satin-luxe finish); Date Mate (cool-tone fuchsia matte); Konichiwa (mid-tone cool blue pink creme).
Next up are some of the shadows.
Mama’s Apple Pie Shadow Quad top left to right: School Bus (deep navy pearlized finish), Small Gift (mid-tone peachy pink pearlized finish); bottom left to right: Rainbow (sheer white with silver and pink glitter in a glitter sheer finish), Friendship File (warm peachy beige dusted with pink and silver glitter in a metallic finish).
You can see the lippies swatched above in my big hand swatch, but here’s what they looked like, all lined up – so much red and pink adorable-ness:
They are all in transit to me – I had to have them all and I will have a separate post on them!
I didn’t get the makeup bag, but these lippies, and all the other pieces of the collection, would fit nicely in this cute Hello Kitty makeup bag:
Girl’s gotta get a touch-up celebrating her big day!
So, I received the Hello Pretty Face Kit at the event, and the next day I dove in.
There’s two lippies – Ultra Glossy Lips in KT is a beautiful sheer finish light gold with pink and gold glitter. Ultra Matte Lip in Ribbon is a blue-toned red. Both are gorgeous:
Next up is the face. Yummy Cookies is a pearlized finish light peach with a flip of silver – I used it as a highlighter on the top of my cheeks and forehead. Fun with Friends is a pearlized finish, vivacious mid-tone warm pink that blended out beautifully. Here’s Fun with Friends (left is straight-up swatch, right is blended out on both face product swatches):
And finally, the eyes. Bento Box is a pearlized true gunmetal, Sticker Sheet is a satin cool-toned taupe and Juicy Apple is a sheer, glittery soft gold topped with gold glitter.
Laura said Juicy Apple was her favorite pick from the collection because she loves sheer, light shadow.
I used them all together in a look Friday:
Here is a collage of the look in different lighting:
I used the following…
- IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Fair
- Fun with Friends as blush
- Yummy Cookies as highlighter along top of cheeks, bridge of nose and forehead
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Bento Box all over eyelid
- Sticker Sheet in crease
- Juicy Apple to brow for highlight
- Urban Decay 24/7 Eye liner in Sabbath
- Diorshow Mascara
- KT gloss
I totally forgot my brows that day. Totally. Forgot.
Everything lasted well, all day. I even had someone tell me I looked great – this look is perfect for work/day and if you just switch out the gloss for the matte red – you have a perfect nighttime/event look!
I love that the Super Shock formula is so creamy, but can be blended and easily applied with a brush. I used the lightest of hands to apply the blush, and I loved the outcome.
There’s another blush – Coin Purse – which is a bright, cool-toned rosy pink blush in a matte finish and a highlighter called School is Fun – a soft iridescent duochrome gold but both are sold out at the moment so I couldn’t get my mitts on them. They are swatched on the bottom row, to the left of the three Lippie Stix in my big hand swatch photo at the top of this post.
Prices in this collection range from $5 for the Lippie Stix to $42 for the Face Kit.
Did you score anything from this collab yet? Do you have a favorite?! I am excited to get all those lippies in!
