I sat at my computer for more than an hour prepping this review, trying to think of a clever opening. The truth is, I kept looking back over my swatches and thinking about when I’m going to wear what polish. So that’s my intro. The KBShimmer fall 2015 hits on a few high notes for me this fall, and gets me excited for fall’s biggest moments from that first day you need a sweater, the moment trick-or-treaters show up at your door, or when you’re carving the turkey on Thanksgiving. Here’s some of my personal highlights of the color palette:
- Dark, vampy yet colorful creme polishes
- Unique glitter combos
- Makes me want to put on a sweater and start a small bonfire in my backyard
How about we just jump right in?!
In the sunlight: In the shade: Be Scareful is a described as dots, shreds and circles in orange and black in a near-white crelly base. After dark, this polish glows ghoulish green! Hello, Halloween! I suck at glow-in-the-dark pictures, seriously. So I didn’t take one. Please forgive me! This is two coats. I can’t wait for Halloween now!
Talk Qwerty To Me:
In flash: In the shade: Talk Qwerty To Me is described as a shimmering teal polish with pops of blue and gold micro flakes. I wore this in two coats for about three days and had no chipping. Fun fact: This color is inspired by the Fall 2015 Pantone Color Biscay Bay.
Teal It To My Heart:
Teal It To My Heart is described as a a strongly pigment teal polish that offers full coverage in almost one coat – totally true. I went ahead and did two just because. That’s how I like my polish. But this is pigmented like whoooooaaaa. KBShimmer says wear alone or pair with Talk Qwerty To Me. Fun fact: This color is inspired buy the Fall 2015 Pantone Color Biscay Bay. This one is going on my toes this month in honor of Teal Toes and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Such a Vlad-Ass
Fig-Get About It
In the sunlight: In the shade: And a close-up: Fig-Get About It is described as a darkened fig/burgundy, linear holographic nail polish. I swatched it in two perfect coats. I might be a little obsessed with this one!
I Feel Gourd-Geous
In the sunlight: In the shade: I Feel Gourd-Geous is described as a coppery champagne color with a fine holographic. Two or three coats will do the trick; for me and my nubbins, it took two! I feel like this is going to be a polish I incorporate into my Thanksgiving mani.
Open Toad Shoes
In the sunlight: In the shade: Open Toad Shoes is described as a soft olive green crelly with pops of navy, burgundy and chartreuse glitters and hints of holographic shimmer. This one is based on the Pantone Fall 2015 color Dried Herbs. KBShimmer says full coverage in two or three coats – it took me two! This base color is one I’m digging for fall this year, and the glitters just make it a unique way to rock the trend.
I’ve Seen Sweater Days
In the sunlight: In the shade: I’ve Seen Sweater Days is described as a muted teal crelly with pops of cobalt blue glitter, lime green holo glitters and sliver glitters to accent. The brand recommends three coats for full coverage. I was able to get away with two thicker coats for my nubbins, and achieved opacity!
Carpe Denim is described as a navy jelly polish loaded with small silver holographic glitters. I achieved opacity in two coats but longer nails might need three or those who do thin coats might need three as well. This is one of my favorites in the collection!
In the sunlight: In the shade: Soul Deep is described as a blackened blurple creme; a midnight blue with has purple undertones. Another one that could be worn in one coat – but I recommend the second. My swatch is two coats. This is just my kind of fall creme, dark and vampy for cool nights by the backyard fire and days in work meetings! I want this on my nails when I return to work after maternity leave!! I’d say my swatch is a little off color in the sunlight – it pulls more purple than it shows, I think!
Dark & Twisty
Dark & Twisty is described as a black jelly polish loaded with fine metallic glitters in a rainbow of colors. When I opened my box to look at all the polishes, THIS was the one that stood out to me as my favorite of the entire collection. It’s stunning and so much fun! I swatched it in two coats and it’s pretty opaque on my nubs; others might want three coats. KBShimmer says you could also layer this over a black polish but I will be content to wear this beauty on her own! This collection is a great mix of finishes, jewel-toned shades and unique glitters – something I identify as a KBShimmer “signature.”
Honestly – I think Christy and Jason and the team behind the brand come up with the most clever names for their polishes, they are fantastic at playing on words. As a word nerd myself, I LOVE this about the brand. I really got a kick out of some of the “throwback” music titles they worked in this collection! Formula and application – no complaints here.
The KBShimmer Fall/Halloween Collection will be launching on September 15 and will be available on KBShimmer.com, Amazon.com and select salons and retailers. It will also be available for those outside the U.S. through HarlowandCo.org.
Do you see any must-haves in this collection!? What’s your favorite from the above?!
