Several weeks ago, Pur Minerals launched a new foundation – Air Perfection CC Compact Cushion Foundation with SPF 50.
Air Perfection is different from any foundation I’ve tried, because it’s a liquid in a compact – I was so eager to try this and see how it worked!
According to its website, Pur Minerals says that Air Perfection has ingredients that will:
- “Help soothe visible irritation for a clearer, more comfortable complexion;
- Provide texture-plumping hydration that softens the look of lines;
- Moisturize, smooth and protect with antioxidant benefits;
- Deliver a megadose of anti-aging amino acids and vitamins”
Let’s see if it delivered – but first, check out this product shot of the “cushion”:
Pur Minerals says on its site that Air Perfection delivers sheer to medium coverage with a mousse-like texture that feels light. When I met with one of Pur Minerals’ lead educators, Joe, at The Makeup Show NYC, he advised me the foundation was medium to full coverage. This worked on me medium to full coverage – I agree with Joe..
Although the foundation comes with a sponge applicator, Joe recommended I use a stippling brush to apply the foundation, which I did.
I find myself really pressing the brush into the cushion to get a decent amount of product on the brush , but once I apply it to my face, Air Perfection is easy to blend – I don’t have to work hard to achieve a smooth look or full coverage. It easily hides the redness of my face.
Among the ingredients, this boasts botanical skincare components like emollient Babassu Oil. Pur Minerals does not test its products on animals and the entire cosmetics line is rooted in ingredients that benefit the skin, according to Joe.
Anyway! Here’s my before – then more thoughts after the pics:
Here’s my half-face with Air Perfection and half without:
And here’s the finished look:
Air Perfection does feel light on my face, despite the coverage. It holds up well – I tested it at an outdoor event over the weekend with lots of sun; the foundation held up on my chin, where I tend to wear it the most, and my face was well-protected with the SPF.
I will sometimes wear this with a powder over it, but it doesn’t need it.
The Upside, the Downside
The highlights of this product, for me, are the SPF 50, the liquid-in-a-compact concept and the coverage. I love how smooth my skin looks with this foundation, and how it blends in so well I barely feel I’m wearing foundation.
I always carry my day’s foundation in my makeup bag, mostly for chin touch-ups. Since I typically wear liquid, putting the bottles in my makeup bag or purse can sometimes lead to caps coming off, and I get foundation stains in my bag. This compact gives me the coverage I like from a liquid, with the convenience of popping a compact into my bag. Great for travel, too.
I would buy this, although I wish the company made this in more shades so that I could find my perfect hue.
Which leads me to the biggest downside of this foundation is that it only comes in four shades, and one color does not shade all, unfortunately. Light is a touch too dark for my complexion, a Fair would be fabulous. IFor me probably a mix of a fair shade and Light would make me comfortable. The color selection is: Light, Medium, Tan and Dark. There is a shade-finder on the website to help you if you’re interested.
Also, I’ve used this several times, but I’m not sure what kind of life the compact will have compared with other foundations I use. I panic that sometimes I’m pressing the cushion hard to get a good deposit of product on my brush, and I’m going to run out when I really haven’t had it long, but it hasn’t crapped out on me yet! I will continue to use this and decide when I kick it whether I will purchase it. I want to see how long it lasts me.
There’s .34 fl oz of product in each compact, and you do get a refill with your purchase, so you’re technically getting .68 fl oz of product for the price.
Where do you buy it – and what do YOU think?
Air Perfection CC Compact Cushion Foundation with SPF 50 retails for $43. Like I said, you’re getting the compact and a refill in one box. I’ve seen it at Ulta, and you can also purchase directly from the Pur Minerals website here.
What do you think of liquid foundation in a compact like this? Is this something you would like?
