I mentioned in my round-up coverage of The Makeup Show NYC that Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is introducing a summer line of six nail polishes and six Lip Tars in a collection called, “Cosplay.”
Here’s that display picture again:
Nail polishes, left to right: John Doe, Cosplay, Belladonna, Cha Cha, Femme, Silence.
Lip Tars, left to right: John Doe, Cosplay, Belladonna, Cha Cha, Femme, Memento.
All the nail polish is new. Cha Cha and Femme were created to coordinate with the Lip Tars, which are repromotes in this collection. Instead of creating a matching nail color for repromote Memento, OCC founder David Klasfeld said he went with a complimentary color, which is Silence. Belladonna was a beloved color that OCC has brought back!
And the inspiration behind the collection?
David said that Cosplay is not only a celebration of the gaming of costume play, but fits nicely with makeup because “makeup is transformative and helping you to achieve your alternate character,” David told me. “It’s really fun.”
I’ve got nail polish swatches today, let’s get to it!
John Doe is a camel brown creme; I know it’s silly but this color reminds me of a bunch of things – a patch of fur on a white and brown hamster…tobacco…coffee with creamer in it…random, right? This is two coats, it applied very easily. Loved the formula on this. I’m not a neutrals girl, but this one has edge.
Cosplay is a vibrant, vibrant green creme! One of my followers on Instagram, @ramoneschick, said this reminded her of a green Starbucks straw. She’s spot on! I wore this in two coats, again, easy formula.
Belladonna is a pretty purple creme. It’s a creamy purple, it’s sweet. Please excuse my angry red cuticle “boo boo” there on my middle finger! This is two coats. Another good formula. Belladonna photographed better for me in the shade than in the direct sunlight, my silly camera!!
Cha Cha is a pretty, pale tangerine creme. Another one that was smooth to apply and opaque in two coats. This is a great summer color.
Femme is a baby pink creme. She looks great in two coats. I found her hard to photograph, but this is pretty good in terms of her hue!
Silence is a marble, off-white hue with silver shimmer. I like this twist on white for summer. Shown here in two coats, I had no issues applying this polish, either.
Overall, this collection is full of easy to apply polishes in a nice summer selection of colors. I love the coordination with Lip Tars. I think my favorite shades are John Doe and Cosplay, if I had to choose!
OCC Nail Lacquer retails for $10 on the OCC site here, and the line is expected to launch June 1.
So- do you see any must-haves among this collection?
I hope you’ll come back to the blog tomorrow – I have a post that talks all about the founding of OCC in a Q&A that David Klasfeld did at The Makeup Show NYC this month!
