I’m a big fan of transitional top coats, the kind that allow me to turn a boring polish into a stunner – or to simply add depth and shimmer to a polish that’s already gorgeous!
Color Club Made in NY collection for Holiday consists of three shimmer polishes, and four shimmer toppers that compliment them! The names of the polishes are also very New York, very obvious and almost touristy with names like “Lady Liberty,” and “Concrete Jungle.”
How about some swatches?!
Apple of My Eye:
Apple of My Eye is a beautiful magenta polish that’s got a glow about it. This was opaque in two coats, and one of my favorites from the collection! You can sorta see in the sunlight that it has a depth to it!
Night at the Met:
Night at the Met is a beautiful country blue with lots of micro shimmer. This is my other favorite in the collection! Opaque in two coats. I love this so much!
Off Duty is an orangey-copper hue. This was also opaque in two coats. I like this color but it’s not my favorites compared with the others! It was a little brush-strokey.
I didn’t swatch the toppers on their own. But rather, I decided to show what each one would look like over the three base colors!
From left to right, Million Dollar Listing (golden shimmer), Concrete Jungle (blue/purple shimmer), Bright Lights Big City (pink shimmer) and Lady Liberty (teal green shimmer) over Apple of My Eye:
These totally bling out in the sun! I had trouble capturing the color shift in direct light. I like how Bright Lights Big City and Million Dollar Listing look with this one!

My picks from these? ALL of them. They’re all beautiful over Night at the Met, especially Bright Lights Big City and Lady Liberty!

It’s hard to see the color shift on Off Duty, especially in the sun! In the shade, I like how Million Dollar Listing looks over it!
Overall, I thought these were interesting base colors to pair with the toppers. I like all the polishes, application was good and the base colors were opaque. I would have paired more traditional hues with the toppers, but at the same time, I already have traditional hues like true reds and blacks at home; I appreciate getting three polishes that are a bit less ordinary!
These polishes are available on the Color Club website, for $8.50 a piece. There’s a mini set of four – two toppers and Off Duty and Apple of My Eye – for $12.95.
I can’t wait to experiment with these over other polishes.
What do you think of this holiday collection?! Which polish do you like and which toppers are for you?!
