Milani Cosmetics Limited Edition Bella Blue Collection Swatches and review on BeautyJudy summer 2014

I’m a HUGE fan of the color blue. Cobalt was the color of my bridesmaids’ dresses. Blue is the signature color of my blog watermark. Blue is EVERYTHING in my world!

When I heard that Milani Cosmetics launched a limited edition collection of cosmetics round my favorite color, called Bella Blue, I started stalking my local drugstores. While I did get the opportunity to review samples, I definitely planned to buy each piece before that! Check out what’s in this collection:

First up, Bella Blue!

Bella Blue is a sapphire blue with shimmer.

I was surprised how much I liked this – from application to wear, this one was my favorite of the three.

Azure is a bright blue with shimmer. I love this one, as well, it made my lashes look long and gave them an amazing color! The only thing was, my lash line burned as the day wore on. I don’t know if maybe I’m allergic to something with this mascara, but it bothered my eyes a bit.

Mediterranean Blue is a pool or ocean blue. This one also bothered my eyes, I had burning along the lash line, mostly on my right eye. My eyes watered and I couldn’t wait to get home from work to take it off.

I share my experience with what I think is an allergic reaction but caution you that this is an individual thing, and my eyes and skin are sensitive. Not everyone will experience this.

Mediterranean Blue was more finicky in application than the other two – perhaps because it’s not a shimmer? I don’t know. But it made me look a little bit like I had insect legs for lashes. I found this very odd.

One of my readers that follows along on social media commented on one of my mascara swatches that she experienced flaking during wear. I did not have that experience, but these were great, long-wearing mascaras for me and therefore tough to take off – especially Azure and Mediterranean Blue. I really soaked my cotton pad with makeup remover and tried to be as gentle as possible.

Bella Blue definitely wins for favorite all around for me, of the three.

Lip Art Lipstick in Bella Blue

This lipstick is a frosty denim blue that didn’t apply all that great; it was kinda patchy. It doesn’t feel like the same formula as the line’s Color Statement Lipsticks. Here’s lip swatches – flash and then natural light:

Here’s how I looked with it on:

Honestly, I don’t think this denim blue hue is a great shade for me. So I mixed it with Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Rose Blush layered over it. Check out the sparkles!

I can’t believe I took pictures with lipstick on my teeth. Please don’t look at that train wreck! LOL But doesn’t it look much more friendly with my skin tone after Rose Blush? Just a great tip for those who might be wary of a blue lipstick – you can do cool layering with it!

Let’s jump right in – here’s swatches!

This blue is a beautiful blackened blue shimmer. It reminds me of a collection Milani released a few years ago around Halloween. Bella Blue has a shift to purple in the bottle that doesn’t totally translate on the nail for me. I’ve worn it here in two coats. It’s highly pigmented and a favorite from this collection for me! It applied easily, I really like the formula.

The collection is available here on the Milani site now. The lipstick is $3.99, the nail polish is $4.99 and the mascaras are $3.99 each. The collection is also available at select Walgreens, Fred Meyer and Kmart stores.

So what do you think of this blue-themed collection? Are there any pretties you picked up, or you’re looking for? If you want any, grab ‘em now before they’re gone!

  • Shelley Polarbelle

this is a very surprising collection. Blue can be fantastic in lipcolor but needs to be combined with something, and the nail polish is just gorge!!

    • BeautyJudy

I agree, Shelley! For me in particular, this blue lippie is a great layering tool!

  • Carla

Love the mascara and polish! Looks great on you! I think the lippie is fun but pretty hard for anyone to pull off i would imagine!

    • BeautyJudy

Yes, the lippie is definitely a party trick for me! But I do like experimenting with layering combos!

  • Robin

If I could just find this polish I would be a happy girl!!!! I have everything but!!!!

    • BeautyJudy

Oh Robin I hope you find it, it’s a keeper!!! I haven’t seen the displays in my area quite yet!

  • http://www.citizensofbeauty.com/ Citizens of Beauty

the mascara makes your blue eyes pop!

    • BeautyJudy

      Aw thanks!!!

  • Betzy Carmona

That mascara is totally cool :)

    • BeautyJudy

      Agreed, it’s really pretty!

  • http://www.honeygirlsworld.com/ Honeygirlk

thank you for posting… I have been playing with these but forgot to write about it. lol I am loving the mascara on you. It has been a great way for me to add a pop of color on my lower lash line without adding any additional shades. I’m not a fan of the purple lippy – but I like how it looks on you ;)

    • BeautyJudy

Thanks! The blue lipstick is just not for me, I did like it mixed with the pink gloss but after I’m done experimenting it’s probably not something I’ll keep.

  • http://theplasticdiaries.com Kimmi @ The Plastic Diaries

I think the mascara looks fabulous on you. I’m not convinced with the lip products for day use. It would be a fun item for a party or dress-ups.

    • BeautyJudy

Thanks! Yeah, the lipstick is just not a practical makeup product for me

  • FabZilla_Kath

I was gonna say, did Judy eat something before taking this photo (tooth stain), lol. Anyhoo, I wouldn’t wear blue lippy but those mascaras? I would!

    • BeautyJudy

LOL I figured if anyone would notice it’d be you! LOL I didn’t realize it until I was previewing my finished post, ugh! Those mascaras are so pretty

  • http://www.painted-ladies.com/ Sheila Arkee

I love the nail polish – I think it’s a great idea, but blue lippies are not my faves!

    • BeautyJudy

No, as much as I love blue, it just doesn’t look good on my lips!

  • Ange

I love the mascara on you!!! Those lippies, I just can’t. I would like like a crazy.

    • BeautyJudy

Thanks! yeah, the blue lipstick just looks awful on me alone.

  • http://www.slashedbeauty.com/ Miranda Mendoza

I just wasn’t a fan of any of the lip products but I do like how the mascara looks on you.

    • BeautyJudy

The lip product in this collection was definitely a mess! Thanks – I wish I wasn’t allergic to them!

  • Anastasia

This is a funky collection, but the nail polish is very wearable. Great review!

    • BeautyJudy

Thanks Anastasia! I like that they thought outside the box on this one!

  • GlitteryGlossy

Mediterranean blue also acted funny on my eyes. Glad I’m not alone.

    • BeautyJudy

Glad I’m not alone, too. I was so bummed about it.

  • Cindy Ingalls

I used blue mascara in the 70′s!

    • BeautyJudy

LOL! I remember having it in the 90s, too!

  • http://www.mynewestaddiction.com/ Laura

those mascaras are everything. i need! and loving that polish!

    • BeautyJudy

They are great. I wish my eyes weren’t so damn sensitive! Yes, polish = beautiful!

  • http://www.geniabeme.com/ Eugenia

The blue lashes are so fun!!

    • BeautyJudy

They are! I wanted them to stand out, and I decided not to wear any other eye makeup with them. But they would look great on fun eye looks too!

  • http://www.blushingnoir.com/ Brooke @ Blushing Noir

I really need that nail polish!

    • BeautyJudy

      YES, it’s so pigmented!

  • http://libbyspinkvanity.blogspot.com Kimberly

I wouldn’t do the lipsticks but I am wild about the mascara and the nails.

    • BeautyJudy

Yes, the lipstick is a bold move!

  • http://www.beautybymissl.com/ beautybymissl

This nail polish looks very pretty and I like how blue mascara looks on you!

    • BeautyJudy

      Thanks! It’s a great polish

  • http://www.phyrra.net/ Phyrra

    That nail polish is lovely

    • BeautyJudy

      It is!

  • http://www.cosmeticsaficionado.com/ Cosmetics Aficionado

I love that blue polish! I am drawn to the mascara and lipstick, but my mind goes black when I think about how I would wear it.

    • BeautyJudy

I did like mixing the lipstick with pink gloss but you have to decide – are you going to really take the time to find colors to mix with it? It’s a novelty that would wear off for me, I think, even though I’m still enjoying the play!

  • http://beautyandthebusiness.com/ The Beauty and The Business

I really want to try the first blue mascara you featured! It’s a deep blue so it’ll be a subtle pop!

    • BeautyJudy

YES! Bella Blue is a beautiful mascara!

  • http://www.manifestdestany.com/ Destany

I’m still not sure on the lipstick – but the mascaras are so cool!

    • BeautyJudy

I definitely am keeping the lipstick for layering, it looks horrible on me alone!

  • Norah Salazar

I love the idea of blue anything especially lipsticks that can be layered and used to custom create other lip colors :)
The mascara looks so awesome too!

    • BeautyJudy

Ah, yes, I love experimenting and mixing colors, that will be so useful for me!

  • Deest

Although I probably wouldn’t buy blue mascara anyway, I am glad you reported your sensitivity. I tend to have sensitive reactions to some cosmetics, so it is helpful for me to know if there may be a problem. The nail polish looks great, though! I might pick that up.

    • BeautyJudy

Oh, I’m glad that was useful. I don’t know if it’s the pigmentation, or what, but I was bummed. I didn’t notice it with Bella Blue, just the other two. Oh well! They were still nice!
