BeautyJudy Covering Cosmoprof and What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag?

Disclaimer: Some previous samples. See bottom.

Last year’s show floor

Every summer, hundreds of the industry’s best and up-and-coming brands get together at Cosmoprof North America, a forum for the beauty industry in the U.S. where attendees and exhibitors can network, share new and upcoming products and cultivate new business relationships.

Cosmoprof starts THIS WEEKEND at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas (July 13-15) and I’m heading out there tomorrow!

If you’ve followed any of my coverage from previous years, you know I’m going to be sharing with you immediately following the show – and in the weeks after – all about new products in makeup, nails, skincare and hair care. That includes upcoming nail polish collections, new launches from beloved brands and products from brands that we haven’t even heard of yet!

I’m also attending events after the show closes most nights, including an event where I’ll get to meet a TON of hot, hip indie nail polish makers, e-tailers and nail art makers – I can’t wait to share everything with you.

Speaking of which, I’ll be sharing via my social media channels before I blog about them – don’t miss out!

So every year, I struggle with one big question. What makeup do I bring?! Here’s the link to last year’s makeup bag, and this is 2012’s makeup bag…Every year I make it my goal to bring less makeup than the year before. I’m not sure I succeed…ever!

This year, I thought I conservatively packed my makeup, based on the outfits I packed. Well, a few days after I initially packed my makeup, I was inspired by Jeanie from Midnight Manicures to take it all out, and pair it again with my outfits to make sure it was as efficient as I thought. How’d I do? Check it out.

The one area I succeeded was to cut down on how many face products I will bring! However, after repacking, I was able to eliminate one more blush. Here’s before:

And here’s what I’m actually bringing:

I usually bring more than one foundation but this year I’m just taking my staple foundation combo from IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream and Bye Bye Redness. I’m toting along a MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Stereo Rose, a blush/bronzer from Ofra Cosmetics, and an indie pink blushes. I’m also bringing NYX Cosmetics HD Finishing Powder to help my makeup go from day to night. I don’t use it all the time so here’s hoping I don’t have some kind of Angelina Jolie makeup artist malfunction with it!!

I initially packed these makeup palettes:

And these eyeliners:

But after pairing everything, I ended up eliminating a bunch of stuff. It all fits in one picture:

I want a combination of neutral and brights, so I combined two of my Ofra palettes, and added in my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and Lime Crime Aquataenia.

I’m bringing a small rainbow of hues from Stila, Urban Decay, Lime Crime, Jesse’s Girl, Ardency Inn, L’Oreal and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. Also in this pic? Two Star Powder highlighters from Make Up For Ever.

My lips were tough to narrow down, too. Here’s what I started with:

And here’s where I landed:

I landed on a mix of neutrals, bright pink, red, and purple with Kryolan, Kat Von D, Jesse’s Girl, MAC, Ardency Inn, OCC, NYX, Illamasqua and of course, glitter lips from Violet Voss.

Here’s the original travel bag:

And here’s how it actually looks:

It’s so much less cramped!

I’m using one of my Zuca pouches that I’ve gotten from The Makeup Show NYC. I LOVE these – Zuca Makeup Cases are awesome pro products for makeup artists, and this pouch in particular is part of the carry-all system, designed to easily slide in and out of the makeup artists’ kit. These bags have a handle, and zip all around. I love that it’s see-through so I can see what’s going on inside!

The plastic baggie is my carry-on quart-sized bag for the airplane. I won’t be checking my makeup at all – it’s going on my carry-on!

I usually pack nail polish so I can change my polish every night. This year, I’ve decided against that. I love my Gelish kit, and I’m going to give myself a Gelish manicure at home before I head out to Vegas. It will last me for the duration of my trip and I won’t have to worry!

Missing from my travel bag in these pics are items that I forgot about that are packed in my checked bag; my CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara in Brown/Black, my Lush Cosmetics Skin Tint. I also took photos before I sat down and cleaned all my brushes, and also missing are other tools/accessories like a pencil sharpener and eyelash curler!

So what do you think? Are you a heavy makeup traveler or light?!

  • Betzy Carmona

You are so brave for traveling with all of that makeup! I’m always so afraid something might happen to it

    • BeautyJudy

I hear ya! I don’t check it – it goes in my carry on. and the carry on that I put under the seat in front of me, not the carry on that goes above! lol

  • Justina

I am so terrible at packing makeup!

    • BeautyJudy

I find it’s so stressful. I have a4598745745784309581 palettes.. HOW DO I CHOOSE WHICH ONE WILL BE THE ONE FOR FOUR DAYS?! lol

  • Anastasia

Nice job packing! I would probably overpack my makeup like it’s going out of style 🙂

    • BeautyJudy

Thanks, lol! I definitely threw in some last minute items I didn’t post about, I’m horrible lol

  • http://www.honeygirlsworld.com/ Honeygirlk

Sweet packing job. 😉 I swear, I have a ton of lipsticks with me when I travel… it’s pathetic. lol I need to try something from Ofra – I haven’t yet.

    • BeautyJudy

I agree. I am crazy over lipsticks – and blushes – especially when I travel!

  • FabZilla_Kath

You did a great job packing. Lipsticks are the hardest to eliminate!!!! Have fun!!!

    • BeautyJudy

Thanks Kath! I admit, I threw in a few more at the last minute, lol!

  • Cosmetic Sanctuary

    I’m so jealous!!

    • BeautyJudy

I’d probably be drooling over your travel makeup bag too. We’re all such enablers and addicts, lol!

  • http://beautylitfromwithin.blogspot.com Nidia Doherty

I wish I could go! Have fun, and share lots of pix.. and why worry about taking so much makeup? Aren’t you going to buy some there? 😉

    • BeautyJudy

I don’t buy any makeup when I’m out in Vegas – there’s nothing out there that I couldn’t get here, really!

  • Cindy Ingalls

Have fun and I’m waiting for your posts!!

    • BeautyJudy

      Thanks Cindy!

  • http://www.clumpsofmascara.com Brittany

Jealous that you’re going. Just soooo jealous! And I love love love Zuca bags. I gave my Mom one of mine and I want it back!

    • BeautyJudy

Oh, I hope we are there together one year. This year was truly amazing. I love meeting so many other bloggers and connecting with brands! And yes, those Zucas, they are everything!

  • http://www.painted-ladies.com/ Sheila Arkee

Wooo! Swooning over your stash! No matter how much I have, I always love looking at every one else’s makeup. Looking forward to your recaps!

    • BeautyJudy

Me too Sheila! I love seeing what other people have in their makeup bags, or that they travel with!

  • http://www.geniabeme.com/ Eugenia

    SO many fun choices!!

    • BeautyJudy

      Thanks, Eugenia!

  • http://libbyspinkvanity.blogspot.com Kimberly

I couldn’t take that much because I’m always nervous my luggage will get lost. That would be a LOT of makeup to lose AND the cost to replace it….That makes me sort of want to cry.

I eagerly await your review on all things that you see there!!!

    • BeautyJudy

So I never check my makeup. I’m militant about it. It MUST go in my carry on, and not the pilot case, either. It’s gotta be in the bag that goes under my seat!

  • http://www.beautybymissl.com/ beautybymissl

I usually actually pack minimal makeup and then I am sorry afterwards 😛

    • BeautyJudy

That’s what I’m terrified of happening! LOL

  • http://www.cosmeticsaficionado.com/ Cosmetics Aficionado

I need to bookmark this for future reference!

    • BeautyJudy

LOL, I hope it inspires you to repack your makeup but I DID end up throwing last minute a couple more lipsticks and blushes in there, lol

  • http://www.mynewestaddiction.com/ Laura

haha You travel very similar to me!

    • BeautyJudy

Glad to hear I’m not alone!

  • http://www.phyrra.net/ Phyrra

Wow, I think you and I pack similarly

    • BeautyJudy

      I’m not surprised! 🙂

  • http://www.portraitofmai.com/ Mai

I usually try to pack minimal makeup though truth be told I don’t travel that often!

    • BeautyJudy

I travel a lot less than I used to, and I find that I find it harder to pack more minimally than I did when I traveled more often. Back when I traveled for work, I had it down to a science. Now I’m a hot mess LOL

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

That’s hysterical. Can’t believe you’re bringing all that since you’ll probably add to your collection in LV. But I definitely know how hard it is to pare down my faves for travel. Have a great time! Wish I could go.

    • BeautyJudy

I actually didn’t buy a single bit of makeup out there! I did receive samples but they don’t enter the collection until they’re photographed, swatched, reviewed! LOL I’m a stickler!

  • http://www.beautyandfashiontech.com/ Carleen

I always say I am going to pack minimal makeup and then I end up with as much as you or more in my bag, lol!

    • BeautyJudy

It’s horrible! But I felt proud that I was able to shrink my pile even by a little lol

  • http://www.makeuplifelove.com/ jamie @makeuplifelove

Dang girl you brought some goodies. Obsessed with the CC cream and the Stereo Rose. And all those eyeliners-oh my gawd- you packed a great bunch of things. I am a total heavy traveler for sure. lol… You never know what you will need so I am always prepared. lol Great post!!

    • BeautyJudy

LOL Jamie! It’s so true, I’m terrified I’ll be out there and think “if I only had THAT blue eyeliner,” even if I have five others LOL
