Red lips haven’t gone out of style and I don’t know that they ever will. That’s one of the reasons I was stoked to try a new red, a bright, matte, vibrant cherry tomato red from a new-to-me – and new to the U.S. – brand, Black Up Cosmetics Paris.

Black Up Cosmetics Paris was founded in 1999 by an African makeup artist. It is the first dedicated upscale beauty brand to magnify black and mixed beauties, according to the brand website. Black Up has a large fan base in France among women of color, and is the nation’s top ethnic makeup brand, with distribution at approximately 200 retail locations, the site says. You can read more about Black Up here!

While I’m not a woman of color, I definitely appreciate the quality of this line, and above it all, the amazing, vibrant colors of the cosmetics! And this red, in particular, is a stand-out.

I discovered the brand at The Makeup Show NYC last month, and it was one of the most beautiful makeup displays on the show floor.

The lipsticks are numbered, not named; I received 34M to try:

I love the packaging. The sleek black tube opens and shuts smoothly and I love the peek of color at the bottom. That’s one of the reasons I love NYX Cosmetics lipsticks so much – I don’t have to turn over every tube to figure out which one I’m looking for!

This red lipstick is classic and beautiful in the tube, and on the lips.

It applied easily, and it wore for hours, well after lunch with a little touch up.

Have you hard of this popular brand?! I’d love to know what you love most about them if you have!
