Yesterday, I ran a 5K.
This was the first race I’ve done since November, and one of the few runs I’ve done since my miscarriage.
I have gained weight since that race in November; I used to be a size 8 but right now I’m a 14. I could have done that 5K in 29 or 28 minutes, but I finished in 33:07.
I hate admitting this; I worked SO HARD to lose the weight I did, and I miss my thinner face, and my strapless sun dresses, especially with the warmer weather. I miss feeling healthier and leaner.
But this 5K was my way of getting back to it. You gotta start somewhere. This Beauty Loser is recommitting to a healthy lifestyle that includes taking advantage of the beautiful weather to run outside!
And let’s be honest. Not only was this 5K a kick in the pants for me to get back on track, but it was an excuse to wear crazy cat lady gear!!!
See, this race was a benefit for the local Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ, and it was held at a local park called Cooper River Park! It was a doggie event – LOTS of folks brought their pups to run and walk with them! But my running club friend and I decided to show off our crazy cat lady style by wearing cat shirts. I got this one at Hot Topic:
And what crazy cat lady outfit would be complete without CRAZY CAT LADY NAILS?!
Don’t you dare judge my horrendous cuticles; this was taken pre-race and I didn’t have cuticle oil handy! I used two coats of OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana on all nails, with:
- Thumb: nail stickers
- Index: design from nail stamping plate T28 with Konad Special Nail Polish in Black Pearl
- Middle: design from nail stamping plate MJ XII with Konad Special Nail Polish in brown and orange
- Ring: design from nail stamping plate SH219 with Black Pearl
- Pinky: nail sticker
Later in the day, as Mike and I ran errands, I wore another new cat T-shirt, also from Hot Topic:
Lest you think I snubbed the doggies, I had a fine time with my coworker Jill’s pup, Riley, who is a miniature Schnauzer and became my new BFF rather quickly:
Oh! And I have to tell you about one of my big motivations for running these days. I also now run for someone. I am a part of the I Run 4 Michael/I Run 4 organization. You can check out more here. I run for Max, and this was my first race dedicated to him!
That’s a Gorgeous Cosmetics Ink Liquid Eye Pencil in Carbon Black, and it went on easily, and lasted through my run, and my sweat. I have been impressed with it on my lids, but SUPER impressed with it so open on my skin, subject to rubbing from my shirt sleeve and all my running/sweating/sun exposure, too!
Today is the start of a new week. I’m going to make it count, and try to be the best me I can be!
