A lot of skin primers have a very velvety, smooth feel to them after you’ve applied them to your facial skin.

Honestly? I don’t care for that too much. My favorite primer goes on like a moisturizer.

Newcomer Ardency Inn Americana Ultra Lightweight Skin Perfecting Primer is a primer that feels like it’s good for my skin, and helps my makeup stay put while not making my face feel as slippery as an ice skating rink!

Here’s the ingredients:

This primer is silicone free (hence the no-slide effect) and water-based. The formula is designed to hydrate, firm and absorb excess oil while tightening pores and prepping skin for foundation application.

Here’s what it looks like:

If anything, this primer feels slightly tacky, which I interpret the same way I would a tacky nail base coat; it’s helping my foundation adhere to my face.

Here’s more info on this primer from the website:

  • Contains a cocktail of 5 hardcore hydrators: Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Shea Butter , Prickly Pear Oil (Vitamin E + Omega 6), Vegetable Trehalose
  • Fomes Oficinalis Extract instantly tightens pores
  • PMMA Powder gently matifies and contains skin softening properties
  • Ideal for all skin types
  • Shine-free natural finish
  • Made in France
  • 1 fl. oz

I had success in using this primer with a bunch of different foundations – Maybelline BB Cream, CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous and Ardency Inn Custom Coverage Concentrate. My chin area is always the first to become patchy as the day wears on, because I touch my chin no matter how much I try not to!

This primer helped my foundation stay put and look good all day.

You can purchase the Ultra Lightweight Skin Perfecting Primer directly from the Ardency Inn shop for $34 here, or from Sephora for the same price.

What’s your favorite primer, and why? What do you think of this primer? Is it something you would try? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I have never heard of this brand but would love to try some of their products out now!

  • Betzy Carmona

I use to own a similar primer to this brand and it was amazing, might give this a try soon

  • myCosmeticBag

I need to try more Ardency Inn products, but my bank account is hurting right now. Still, it’s almost too tempting…

I would love to try some Ardency Inn products – they sound great!

I’d be interested in trying this! I’ve only tried silicone primers and that texture kinda creeps me out lol!

    • BeautyJudy

The silicone primers don’t do anything for me, I have tried a bunch and even bought the new Maybelline one…but they aren’t as good as this type of primer, or as Nidia mentioned, moisturizer

  • Nidia Doherty

I’ve heard James say that a good moisturizer is all you need, but us Florida girls like a good primer. I kinda like the slick ones, I guess it makes me feel like there’s something there! lol. I think I need to re-evaluate that!

    • BeautyJudy

Yes! He is the educational/artistry director of this brand and for him to throw his endorsement behind something really makes me take a double take.

  • MyNewestAddiction

This sounds interesting. I haven’t tried anything from the brand. Looks like I need to get on that!

    • BeautyJudy

      Yes! I support that lol!

  • Amber

I like that it has shea butter so high up in the ingredients. I’d give it a try!!

    • BeautyJudy

Yes I don’t use. moisturizer with this although I probably should…ssssh don’t tell the skincare police!!!!

  • Justina

This looks really nice! I tried the Ardency Inn eyeliner a while ago, now it’s time to try the rest of the line 🙂

    • BeautyJudy

Oooh I have an eyeliner, I want to try it this weekend!

I’m slowly falling in major love with Ardency Inn. I’ll absolutely check this out!

    • BeautyJudy

Yes me too. I’ve been impressed!!!

  • Noelle

Love Ardency Inn! This primer looks fantastic!

    • BeautyJudy

I really like this brand too!

  • http://loveforlacquer.com/ loveforlacquer

This is definitely something I would try! I am always in the market for a good primer to help my foundation last all day!

    • BeautyJudy

I didn’t really use a primer consistently until now!

  • Nicki Zevola

I don’t like this primer’s ingredients from looking over them quickly.

My favorite primer for normal to oily skin is Too Faced; it contains kaolin (clay), which really helps to dissolve oil.

For normal to dry skin, I like using our FutureDerm Vitamin CE Caffeic Silk Serum 16+2 — it has a silicone base and 16% vitamin C. Shameless plug, I know, but that’s what I use and you asked, soooo.. 0:-)

Truth be told, though, I would try the Ardency Inn since you did!

    • BeautyJudy

yes lol I did ask! If we were all the same and we all liked the same ingredients and finishes…beauty would be boring, right?!

i like primers with dimethicone to make things smooth. I tend to always rub my nose (blowing my nose from allergies).

    • BeautyJudy

Ugh! Glad I’m not the only one that has that one spot we rub our makeup off from!!

  • erikatheicyone

I really like silicone based primers, they smooth my pores and adhere my foundation to my skin nicely.

    • BeautyJudy

I love that we have options! I’m glad silicone works for you, I have never had good luck with them! 🙁

  • Anastasia

I get what you mean about tacky primers, as I tend to like those a lot, because they help the rest of my makeup adhere better by “fusing” with it. Looks like a winner to me!

    • BeautyJudy

Definitely a winner for me, agree on “tacky” 🙂
