This past Saturday, I spent the day in New York City with Mom – it was a cold, but fun day that started off with a visit at a Rite Aid (534 Hudson Street) to see the Jesse’s Girl crew, where Julie G had a meet and greet with fans!
The purpose of Julie’s meet-and-greet was not only promotional for the brand to spread the word about its new holiday Frosted Gum Drops, but it was also to help drive awareness of Rite Aid’s new beauty program.
The Jesse’s Girl crew told me that Rite Aid is rolling out new beauty advisers/experts at its updated stores (newer beauty sections have some higher-end makeup and new displays) who can help you pick out makeup among the different brands offered.
What a bonus, because how many times have you thought, “I want a new foundation/mascara/powder” and looked at the rows of pre-packaged, drugstore makeup that you can’t try and thought, “well, I guess I’ll just take my chances, this is my price range, I’ll see what happens.” I’m hoping they roll this out all over the Rite Aid footprint. I’m going to see if I can find more info!
Here’s a couple photos from the event:
Julie offered nail looks to fans with the new Frosted Gum Drops. The first 50 fans received a small gift bag (shown below in the top right corner) that included a Frosted Gum Drop polish, toe separators and a bottle of the brand’s newest offering, Jet Set Quick-Dry Top Coat.
And here’s a picture of my mom, Julie G, and me!
So immediately, the next day, I did a Christmas-themed mani using JulieG Sunset Kiss (the red shimmer) and the new Mistletoe, a Frosted Gum Drop. I added a fimo candy cane over Mistletoe, and decided to use Jet Set over the texture polish. Here’s what it looked like after application:
The formula of Jet Set is not too thin and not too thick. The brush is comparable to my Holy Grail, Cult Nails Wicked Fast:
Within two minutes of applying Jet Set, I was able to run the pad of my index finger over the surface of another nail without damaging the top coat application.
I tried within 10 minutes to lightly bang my thumb against the glass top on my coffee table, but I did eventually get a tiny dent (that actually worked itself out, I couldn’t see where it was anymore on my thumb when I remembered I did it and was taking off the mani!)
I waited maybe another 15 minutes, and tapped the tip of my finger nail on the surface of my nail. It was fine. I went to bed within the hour and no sheet marks and everything was fine. You can see that I painted the tips of my nails with polish, and sealed that with Jet Set, as well.
Day one, it wore perfect. Stayed glossy, still had polish on my tips at the end of the day, which is a great day of wear for me!
Here’s how it looked on day two!
I had minimal tip wear elsewhere on my hands, and even still had some polish lingering on the tips, as well.
My intention was to wear this for three or four days, but I received my order of Zoya Remove +, and went to open the safety seal on the bottle and had a little accident, which ruined my mani. I decided I’d take it off and my pledge to you is that I will be consistently use this top coat until the bottle is empty, and give you more thoughts then.
There are a couple things I want to look out for:
- How does it look over creme polishes? Still glossy after two days on creme and jelly polishes?
- How does it hold up on other polishes? Different brands wear differently on me, I want to try it on a variety of brands.
- How does the formula hold up? Does it stay consistent like Wicked Fast or get thick and difficult like Seche Vite?
So my early summary opinion is that I am initially impressed with Jet Set – from how quickly it set to the minimal tip wear I experienced.
Right now, you can find Jet Set on the Jesse’s Girl website under “JulieG”, and it retails for $3.99. Yes. $3.99 for .35 oz. Did I say it was $3.99? It’s only $3.99. And you can find it here. Look for this to come to Rite Aid, too.
So what do you think? Will you be giving Jet Set a go?! Do you think it will compare with your Holy Grail top coat?! I look forward to reporting back to you after I use the entire bottle – probably in about three to four weeks!
