Ruby Wing Cupcakes & Champagne

Ever since I saw a peek at the Ruby Wing fall collection, Cupcakes & Champagne, I could not wait to get them on my fingers! I’m waiting for my local beauty supply shop to get them in stock before I buy them all, but in the meantime, I’ve got a couple I received from the brand to review!

Cupcakes & Champagne is a scented, color-changing six-piece polish collection. If you’re not familiar with Ruby Wing, the polishes change color under UV light.

At Cosmoprof, I snapped a couple bottle change colors of other polishes in the new fall collection. Here’s Cinnamon Bun – indoors on left, under UV light on the right:

And here’s my swatches! Sweet Cream – indoors:

sweet cream

Sweet Cream is a pearly sheer pink shimmer that smells faintly sweet, but I can’t really identify the scent with certainty. Here it is swatched on my nails in two coats.

I LOVE the pretty purple with pink shimmer that this color changes to!

Chocolate Mousse – indoors:

chocolate mousse

Chocolate Mousse is a sheer jelly base with lots of iridescent shredded glitter. This is two coats. It smells faintly of chocolate.

Chocolate Mousse changes to a vibrant wine that goes really nicely with those iridescent flakes.

One thing to be careful of when using the sheerer, color-change colors? Clean up! I left my cuticles messy to demonstrate that even though I cleaned up, I missed spots until I went in the sun and saw my mistakes! Even if you don’t think there might be polish on your cuticles, clean up around them anyway.

When it comes to scent, these were so light I didn’t even notice it, really, when I used them. Which I like. I love it when polishes are softly scented vs. strongly scented.

Application on Sweet Cream was fine. Chocolate Mousse was a bit thicker and I did try to place the pieces of glitter evenly over my nail. These are polishes I would have bought, even if they weren’t sent for review. I intend to buy the remaining four in the collection; or at least Cinnamon Bun (my hugest lemming for fall right now!) and Strawberry Shortcake!

These polishes retail for $10 a piece on the Ruby Wing site here. I also found them for $8 a piece on Head2ToeBeauty.com here.

So what do you think of the Cupcakes & Champagne collection?! What about Sweet Cream and Chocolate Mousse?! What colors would you pair them with? I definitely think for me, they are better over a base color than on their own. I’d love to hear what you think!
