Welcome, July! Here in the U.S., especially in Southern New Jersey, summer is in full, heat-wave effect!

I’m not always by the pool or lying on the beach this summer (a girl’s gotta work!), but I am wearing clothes that reveal more of my skin than ever (especially since I’ve been wearing more strapless tops and dresses lately!) and I still find myself out and about in the sunshine. Enter Jane Iredale to the rescue!

Jane Iredale – “the skin care makeup,” is the company’s tag line – has products that can help protect my skin – whether I’m running errands on a 94-degree day or strolling down the boardwalk in search of an ice cream cone. Mmmm. Ice cream!

I’m going to share a brief overview and some thoughts on four products, and very early tomorrow, I’m going to have a giveaway go live – so you can win your very own trial-sized set – and one full-size item – of these products!:

Jane Iredale LipDrink Lip Balm (SPF 15)

The first thing you might notice about LipDrink is that it’s actually packaged for women and men in a sleek, sophisticated gunmetal tube.

This SPF lip balm goes on without color:

It’s moisturizing, with a base of macadamia nut oil and edible zinc oxide (8%) for an SPF of 15 and broad spectrum sun protection. LipDrink also has sunflower seed oil, which has lots of vitamin E in it. LipDrink has a pleasant scent of citrus, from lemon and orange oils. It’s fresh and refreshing.

This does a great job of moisturizing my lips for a couple hours, and although the citrus scent doesn’t last, I really like it. The balm feels a bit hard when you apply it to your lips but it immediately moistens up!

LipDrink retails for $12.

Tantasia Self Tanner & Bronzer

tantasia
Tantasia is Jane Iredale’s new sunless self tanner and bronzer.

This is the product that tells everyone that although you have been wearing your SPF, you still have sun-kissed skin!

Tantasia is a lightweight formula that has a light citrus scent when you squeeze it out of the tube. It’s safe for the face and body, and can be used to build up a gradual, natural-looking tan within three days. Here’s the ingredients:

It definitely gave my leg a bronzey glow! But I didn’t apply it perfectly. Can you tell around my ankle?

tantasia 3
So I must confess, I didn’t like this product. I liked how easy it is to use, and it did look bronze. Where I applied it evenly it looked great.

But as the hours wore on, I noticed that my legs stank with that smell that comes off your skin with self tanner. I can’t explain it. It’s a weird smell, like cooked skin or something? I don’t even know. I can’t put my finger on what it smells like, but I don’t like it, and it’s why I stay away from self tanners that encourage gradual color payoff.

Tantasia Self Tanner & Bronzer retails for $36 (4.2 oz).

POMMISST Hydration Spray

hydrating mist

POMMISST Hydration Spray is a hydrations spritz that not only sets mineral makeup, but can also hydrate and protect skin – it’s got pomegranate extract, which is a UV protector.

POMMISST is recommended for use in many ways:

  • When your face feels dry, or you’re exposed to a dry atmosphere
  • To set mineral makeup
  • To moisturize oily skin
  • To wet brushes, so you can turn eyeshadow into eyeliner
  • Control static in your hair with it

I personally carry this in my purse, and use it when my face feels flushed or overheated. Particularly nice would be putting it in the fridge and spraying after extended exposure to heat or sun, I imagine!

POMMISST retails for $18.50 for 2 fl oz.

Powder-Me Dry Sunscreen

Powder-Me Dry Sunscreen is my new favorite powder before I leave the house in the morning.

This dry sunscreen can be used anywhere on the body – including the scalp – for a UVB/UVA/SPF 30 protection. It’s water resistant for up to 40 minutes, too.

It contains titanium dioxide and a natural clay, which contains minerals that can help calm skin.

Powder-Me is available in three shades: Tanned, Transluscent and Golden. I tried it in Transluscent, which was perfect for my fair skin.

I love the packaging – it’s got a mirror on top of the cap!

It’s also got a sponge applicator, and if you unscrew that, you can see the powder in the container. I prefer to apply it with a brush in the morning over my foundation.

powder me 5
This is just after application; it settles in and looks great.
