JESSICA It’s a Girl Thing Collection – Spring 2013

its a girl thing

One of the things I love about JESSICA is that sometimes, the collections have a personal ring to them. Like last year’s Bliss is This! wedding collection.

This time, with the brand’s spring collection It’s a Girl Thing, each girl in creator and founder Jessica Vartoughian’s life is represented by a polish that matches their individual personality. The result? A six-piece collection that is beautiful and vibrant. How about some swatches?!

Sun-Kissed Beauty:

alia 2

Sun-Kissed Beauty, a brilliant bright coral orange with white shimmer, represents Alia.

True Blue:

sophia 2

True Blue is a gorgeous dusty blue that looks almost touched by lavendar in some lighting. It’s got the most subtle white shimmer. It represents Sophia.

Smitten Kitten:

amira 2

Smitten Kitten is a bright pop of pink, also with subtle white shimmer. It represents Amira.

Sterling Queen:

nadia 2

Sterling Queen is a light, refined silver-grey. It represents Nadia.

New Kid in Town:

ava 2

New Kid in Town is a lavender with another subtle boost of white shimmer. It represents Ava.

Ruby Empress:

alexis 2

Ruby Empress is a bold red. It’s got white shimmer, as well. This represents Alexis.

I know that Alexis is Jessica’s oldest granddaughter, from the Bliss is This! collection, but I’m not sure if the others are also grandchildren and/or daughters. Either way, what a nice sentiment to match their personalities with polish. In the press release, the company describes the colors as “each girl plays dress-up in her favorite color that evokes her distinctive personality.”

My favorites from this collection are True Blue, Ruby Empress, Sun-Kissed Beauty and Smitten Kitten. Sterling Queen is my least favorite.

When I swatched these, nothing felt out of the ordinary in terms of formula. I only needed two coats of each for opacity. However, in a conversation with another blogger, who found that half the collection was very thick, I revisited my bottles so that I could be sure. Sure enough, True Blue was probably the thickest, with Smitten Kitten, Ruby Empress and Sun-Kissed Beauty all thick as well. The other two were OK. I didn’t feel like the formula hindered me from applying them well when I swatched them, but I felt it was important to note because it is noticable!

JESSICA can be purchased from the brand’s website here at the end of this month. JESSICA is also sold at salons and spas internationally, but I haven’t seen one yet that carries the line. Of course, I don’t go to very many spas so I’m not a good indicator! JESSICA polishes generally retail for about $7.50 a bottle.

Do you see anything you like? What do you think about the spring collections we’ve seen so far?!
