…a diamond engagement ring!
I’m excited to share that Mike and I got engaged on Saturday morning!!!
Friday night, I was in New York City hanging out with Maria from Cult Nails, Courtney from Phyrra and Claudia from Chromatic Misadventures. I came home late, and I saw two packages that had been delivered that day. I snuck into another room to open and see what came, and then went to bed.
The next morning, I slept in a bit. Mike came into the bedroom and we chatted and spent some time petting our kitty, Timmy. Then he left the room as I stretched and decided to get up. He came back in. “It looks like you have another package, it must have fallen out of sight last night.”
So I trek out to the living room to see this package, curious, because I wasn’t expecting samples or another order, and I saw a small cardboard box on the coffee table.
At first I was like, who can ship things with postage stamps on them, that’s weird. And what the hell is “Eternal Cosmetics” because I’ve not heard of this brand yet. Hmm, I thought, maybe they are new and they are looking to start relationships with bloggers by reaching out.
I open the box, and this is what I see:
I pick the ring up off the nail polish bottle, and I barely look at it. I think, ‘that’s odd, that they would put a piece of costume jewelry in with makeup samples…hmm. why a Nicole by OPI bottle?”
I was so. Confused.
“WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH *Judy* WAH WAH Our love is hard to find, like a bottle of unicorn puke. WAH WAH WAH WAH Will you marry me?”
I must’ve only caught about every so many words of what he was saying, I was so in shock, and I started crying as soon as I pieced together what was happening.
Of course, I said yes!
I was holding the ring the whole time, but hadn’t really looked at it. Mike said I was staring at him the whole time but I don’t remember seeing anything specific LOL. I finally went to put the ring on and said no, no! Mike, YOU put it on! So he did and then we were engaged. This is what I was wearing when we got engaged:
Square Hue Champagne Toast with China Glaze Pure Joy as my accent. Pure Joy, indeed! But this mani was three days old! I knew I wouldn’t keep it much longer.
But I wasn’t thinking about my nails just yet. We told my mom, dad and two best friends by phone, but waited to tell everyone else until 3 p.m., when we started our night of family Christmas parties. I decided about 45 minutes before the first party that I needed a polish change but didn’t have time for nail art. I went with a simple, holiday red. China Glaze With Love:
First was Mike’s family party. His mom was so sweet. She was jumping up and down! Everyone was so excited. Then we went to my family party, and everyone was excited for us there too.
This is my favorite photo from the night, taken at Mike’s sister’s house, with Santa:
LOL Mike is rolling his eyes and I’m all ecstatic with my hand out. As is Santa, of course LOL
Mike mentioned to the jeweler about my blog and nail polish obsession and they sent him home with a bunch of branded nail files and a wedding magazine:
And that’s pretty much our engagement story! *Squeeeee*, I’m so happy! I can’t wait to marry the love of my life. I also think it was really clever of him to think of proposing in this way, incorporating my love of blogging in with my love of him, LOL!
As girly girly as I am, the idea of wedding planning is daunting and I don’t even know where to begin. Mike and I are going to sit down and work out a budget for saving, guest list and then work on where we want to have it based on how much we’ll have for the wedding. We’re hoping for fall of next year. Hoping!
One of the things I noticed was how many people, including one of my best friends, didn’t ask HOW the proposal happened! I love those stories, lol. I was also shocked at how many people asked, “so when is the wedding?! Did you set a date?!” We’d only JUST gotten engaged that morning, we were enjoying each other and this new space that we’d moved into as bride- and groom-to-be!
Oh! And other next steps?! I’m very much looking forward to asking my bridal party to be in the wedding. I think I have it worked out how I’ll ask them.
MIA this week!
Because of the engagement, we had lots of family to visit on Sunday, as well as our parties on Saturday, and I am off on a business trip Monday. So I won’t have a new blog post for a couple days. I have the new LVX Resort collection and a review of the new nail polish subscription service, Square Hue, coming up, but no time for finishing up swatches and writing.
Thanks for sharing one of the happiest events in my life, everyone! XO
