Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick recently got an overhaul – the new packaging is sleek, and the new colors are on trend.
The line has a great mix of creamy and matte shades (22 in all!), which I spotted on display at The Makeup Show Orlando last week! Here’s 17 of the colors in the show display…I believe the rest were being tested and tried out by show-goers!:
I couldn’t wait to put one of the mattes, Infrared, to the wear test!
Look at that vibrant, true red! Here’s how it looked on me:
Infrared matte is such a classic; it’s so flattering and I love it! This is the kind of lipstick that gives you a glow from the confidence it adds to your outlook!
So OK, the color is great, but how did it wear?
Honestly?! It wore like a champ!
I applied my lipstick at 7:30 a.m., and didn’t touch it up at lunch because I didn’t need to! After two meals (breakfast and lunch), a 16 oz. cup of coffee and a soft drink midday, I had a bit of inner lip wear. But this lipstick was going strong! I smushed my lips together around 1 p.m. to get a bit of the color back into my inner lower lip, where the most lipstick was absent.
The matte formula is creamy going on and easy to apply, and it stays creamy for a while. Around lunchtime, I did notice that my lips felt unmoisturized but not so much that I couldn’t still feel that there was a little bit of the product still there.
After lunch, I decided to leave it be and see how this lippie would hold up through the end of the work day. Throughout the afternoon, I didn’t have time much to think about how my lipstick felt, but I did catch myself biting my lower lip because it felt a little dry! Next time I use it, when I’m not wear-testing it, I will likely use a coat of lip balm over it in the afternoon or earlier when it starts feeling a little dry.
At around 5:15 p.m., when I stopped in the rest room before leaving work, I noticed that I still had Infrared – faded, but there – on my upper lip, with about half of it worn off of my lower lip so that I had a large, early 90’s-style lip line. Ugh! I was impressed again, but I touched it up quickly before heading out the door. And when I say touch up, I don’t mean reapply. I literally swiped it here and there – mostly my lower lip – where I needed to fill in color.
Be Legendary Lipstick in Infrared is an amazing lipstick for wear, and one I know I can rely on when I have long work days or events, or when I’m attending a beauty industry trade show or event and need my lipstick to stay put as I move about with no time for touch ups!
Also important? It didn’t feather!
Be Legendary Lipstick retails for $19. You can find it online through Smashbox’s site, Sephora and Ulta.
