Thank you again to everyone who participated in my “Teal Toes” Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month efforts! We raised a LOT of awareness together, and I think you’re all wonderful!!!
Congratulations to these two winners of the Color Club OCRF polishes – Elise and Rebecca! I used an iPhone app called Names in a Hat to draw their names randomly:
I’ll get your polishes out to you this week!
So, last week when I put together my roundup for Friday, I lost the entire. Post. ENTIRE. POST. I had to start over. Some people were sending me pics via Facebook, some by email. I gathered everything back up and posted it, and totally forgot to add back in Thalie’s Teal mani! That’s one thing I find so frustrating about WordPress – sometimes you can hit save, and you lose everything you did since your last save. *grrr* It’s worse when you, um, forget to save the entire time. *guilty* Do any other bloggers on WordPress.com platforms have this issue?!
So Thalie, who runs the blog Glazed Talons, used Wet n’ Wild Cost is No Issue for her teal mani!
That is GORGEOUS, Thalie! She said, “I helped raise awareness last year with a fellow blogger, and am continuing the tradition to raise awareness. Fortunately, no on in my family has been plagued with Ovarian Cancer, however, some of my father’s family members had some form of cancer in their lifetime, so I am happy to raise awareness no matter what type of cancer, and to continue hoping that there will be a cure.”
Why do I do this?
I attended The Blogger Collective’s Unconference on Friday night (TBC is a great group of NYC-area bloggers, and I’m very proud of my association with them!) and presented about building your personal and blog brand. After my presentation, another member asked me, how did your collaboration with Teal Toes come about?
I enjoy supporting this organization because it’s genius – how many times have you received a compliment from someone on your pedi, or your mani? You get the opportunity to raise awareness when you get a compliment on your teal pedi, and I love that idea. Over the years I’ve enjoyed keeping in random touch with the founder of Teal Toes, and she’s a very nice person. It’s really an honor to be able to help her raise awareness, and I think it’s important to recognize people and families and friends who have been affected from cancers other than breast cancer. I’m happy to wear pink this month, but I feel like I’m bringing awareness to a very underestimated killer when I support ovarian cancer awareness.
Depression Awareness Month starts today
With that said, I will have a breast cancer awareness post this month, but I wanted to close my Teal Toes support by opening with a few “green” ideas for October, Depression Awareness Month. I have suffered from depression – I even wrote about it as a newspaper columnist and received tons of reader support – it’s amazing how many kindred souls you find when you open up about your struggles – no one is ever truly alone if they share their lives.
Although I still have some anxieties (some are social anxieties that I really haven’t ever talked about; I’m an extreme worrier at times and I have bad aviophobia), and I have been on and off of an anxiety meds the last few years, it’s been several years since I was steadily on an anti-depressant, and I am generally a happy, positive person who tries to support my friends and family who suffer depression. This is for them, a few pics of my favorite greens right now. They know who they are, and I love them:
Layla Cosmetics Mojito Green
OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine!
China Glaze Unpredictable
Cult Nails Deal With It
Rescue Beauty Jack
Orly Monster Mash (I had to include a glitter – and this is my favorite green glitter of the moment!)
Zoya Noot (Hey, what can I say, Zoya has made some great greens!)
Thanks everyone! Have a great week!
Disclaimer: I received press samples of the Zoya polishes and China Glaze Unpredictable in a press gift bag at Cosmoprof from the PR/Manufacturer for review. Please visit my Disclosure tab for more information on how BeautyJudy.com keeps it real!
