OPI Miss Universe Collection

As a young girl, I looked forward to the Miss America pageant every September. I loved to watch the women in their pretty gowns, and watch them sing, dance and play music across the stage during the talent portion. I also thought the pageant was special, because it used to be held in Atlantic City, a mere 45-minute drive from my hometown!

It’s no longer in Atlantic City, and I haven’t watched it in years. But the memory of being a young girl and admiring the beauty and talents of those women has stayed with me!

My interest was piqued when I learned that OPI created a four-piece collection, Miss Universe by OPI, to capture the energy of the 2011 MISS  UNIVERSE® competition, to be held September 12, 2011, in São Paulo, Brazil.

I knew the names would be fun. I knew the colors would be sparkly. So I was pleased to get my mitts on them! I don’t know much about Miss Universe, though.

“Miss Universe is the most popular and publicized beauty pageant in the world,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director, in a press release. “We are excited to partner with the Miss Universe Organization, whose contestants provided so much inspiration for rich, high-fashion color.”

The Miss Universe Organization named OPI its official nail care sponsor this June. Additionally, Suzi will be a judge for the 2011 Miss USA® pageant, a precursor to the Miss Universe competition!

I imagine Miss Universe is a beautiful pageant, with gown fashions and women from all over the world smiling and showing us what talent chops they’ve got. I may have to channel my inner young girl, and tune in for nostalgia’s sake!

But for today, how about these sparkly polishes?!

Congeniality is My Middle Name:

A berry-wine shimmer, Congeniality is My Middle Name was hard to capture on film! She’s not as red as she appears in my photos, there’s definitely more of a glowy, purple/pink shimmer to her.

It’s MY Year:

Oh – HELLO, GORGEOUS! It’s MY Year is a champagne-rose duochrome sparkler and my favorite from this collection. She’s stunning! I thought this might be dupable to Zoya Faye, but It’s MY Year is definitely more purple-based, and Faye is more pinky.

Swimsuit…Nailed It!:

Swimsuit…Nailed It! is a vibrant blue shimmer. The formula looks similar to Congeniality is My Middle Name. This one looks almost foil, though, in certain lighting!

Crown Me Already!:

Crown Me Already! is a clear base loaded with regular silver glitter, small roundish silver glitter and large hex silver glitter. This is two coats and it’s pretty opaque. A third would cover it. I may use this as a top coat, because without a base color, you can see my stained nails peeking through the glitters.

I had no application issues using the OPI Pro-Wide brush, or with the polish formulas. It’s a nice, brief collection – I enjoy these themes!

This limited-edition promotion is available now at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for  $8.50 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail a piece. I also saw a display of these at Wegman’s.

I don’t usually include this kind of information, but as I was unfamiliar with Miss Universe, other than that Donald Trump has some stake in it, I thought you might want to know a bit more about the organization, too!
