China Glaze Tarnished Gold

Before I launch into my review, I just wanted to tell you that I apologize, I have not drawn the winner yet for the Sally Hansen LE Salon Effects yet. The week got away from me between work and other things going on, and then with the weekend came a lot of turmoil.

This has been an incredibly, emotionally-draining weekend as my cousin’s husband¬†is losing his almost three-year battle against brain cancer, and I’m very close with this part of my family. I can’t stop thinking about them. I was able to go over and bring food for the family and basically say goodbye to Carmen on Saturday. I will let you know what happens.

My grandmother was also admitted to the hospital Friday, and I spent the weekend helping my mom take care of my aunt, who has Down’s Syndrome. My grandmom came home from the hospital yesterday, and looks good, but I still keep her in my prayers.

The only reason I am blogging is to take my mind off things and because I received samples the tail end of the work week that I want to get swatched and published. This is one of them. I have not tallied up the entries for the contest because at the moment it seems overwhelming and I don’t want to shortchange anyone an entry, or honestly, have to do math LOL. I will do it soon, I swear. I just wanted to keep you posted, and let you know what’s going on.

I try not to ask for much, but if you are the praying type, and you have a moment, I would greatly appreciate the prayers for my cousin Linda and her hubs, Carmen. As I write this, Sunday night, I’ve heard his breathing is labored and things are not good. I feel like we are just waiting…and I am still a bit shocked at how suddenly the end came upon him, even though we knew with the return of his cancer it meant the end was eventual. This is Linda and Carmen together at a benefit in his honor, January 2009:

Cancer sucks. And I myself am praying for not just my family, but for those I don’t know who have been affected by this horrible disease, in any form.

UPDATE – Carmen passed away at 7 a.m. this morning. It’s been a rough day for my cousin and the family, but I know that Carm is in a better place now.

I bought four of the six China Glaze Crackle Glaze Metals collection polishes from Sally Beauty last month or earlier this month. The two I didn’t get were Tarnished Gold and Platinum Pieces. I don’t think I’ve previously shown any of them. And until this weekend I’d only worn one, Cracked Medallion.

Anyway, I was surprised when a samples box containing two of the Metals Collection arrived at my door, including Tarnished Gold and Oxidized Aqua. I will show Oxidized Aqua in another post ūüôā

Since the¬†polishes arrived Friday, and Tarnished Gold was a perfect compliment to what I was already wearing that day¬†– one coat of Sinful Colors Adventure Island with two coats of Cult Nails Always Winning over top – I refreshed my manicure for Saturday by using a coat of the Crackle Glaze. Here’s how it turned out:

Now my longer nails:

This was a beautiful crackle manicure, with the sparkle from Always Winning really coming through the cracks.

Tarnished Gold was easy to use, and has that “shatter” effect more than a true crackle. I found the crack was different on my longer nails as the coat thinned out across the nail as I applied it, whereas it was a bit thicker on my shorter nails. It dries relatively easily and quickly, and looks foily/sparkly with a coat of Seche Vite over it!

Have you tried these Crackle Glaze polishes yet? I believe I’ve also seen them at Ulta. What do you think of Tarnished Gold?
