Yellow Brick Road is described by Deobrah Lippmann as “a sheer mellow yellow with a jelly finish.” Deborah goes on to say, “the proof that it wears beautifully on all skin tones: it complements me and Lady GaGa, who wore it first for her “Born This Way” performance at the 2011 Grammy Awards.
I don’t know if it really complemented my fair skin tone. I loved it when I first put it on. But then as I wore it throughout the weekend, I felt like it was a bit too harsh at times, too in contrast to my skin. But man, I loved the squishy, jelly texture and shine.
So, I’m torn about it! How about I let the photos show you what I mean?!
YBR was such a chameleon of yellow on me in different lighting! It was mustard. It was Marshmallow Peep. It was lemonade. It was pee. It was crazy!
At times I wanted to eat my nails because they made me think of lemon water ice or Lemonhead candies.
So I mention this not to be vain, but because I know there’s a certain measure of whether a polish looks good on me or not based on the reactions I get – and I got zero compliments on this manicure. I mean, I was with family all day Saturday, yard sale-ing all over, eating at the diner, chilling with more relatives…picking up sunscreen at Ulta…again, not to sound vain, and I don’t LOOK for compliments on my mani (my opinion of my mani and whether I can live with it is the opinion that matters most!) but I almost always get compliments on my nails. So the fact that I didn’t, and I was around so many different women, leads me to believe that this one might not be well-suited for me.
But I love the jelly!
Argh. I am truly a woman torn.
Anyway. These retail for $16. I purchased mine at Blue Mercury 2. You can also find it at Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and online at www.deborahlippmann.com.
