Umberto Beverly Hills Shimmer Shine Spray

My hair starts out silky when I first dry it and get out of the shower. But it’s not long before it isn’t. My hair needs brushing as the natural wave clumps pieces together, instead of letting it lie silky and flat.

A couple years ago, I started using shine products in my hair. I started with Fekkai Glossing Cream. After I had an incident where I used too much and looked like I had a head of grease, I switched to Matrix Biolage Color Care Shielding Shine Mist, at the recommendation of my hair stylist (who had also just made me a red-head at the time!). Here’s a product shot of those items, because I realized I never threw them away…

Both of these products cost some coin. The Fekkai product, which I purchased at Ulta, runs between $23 to $32 depending whether you want the 4 oz or 7 oz. The Matrix product, was, I believe, $14. It’s not available on the Ulta web site so I can’t double check. Of the two, the Matrix product was much easier to use but I stopped using it when I got my hair cut earlier this year and no longer had dyed hair.

I was happy, therefore, to try Umberto Beverly Hills Shimmer Shine Spray. The key with shine sprays and products, I’ve learned, is portion. A little goes a long way. And, in the Goldilocks world of too big and too small, Umberto Beverly Hills’ Shimmer Shine Spray, I’ve learned, is just right.

Shimmer Shine Spray is a continuous aerosal spray that emits a lightweight shine formula. Here’s an “action shot”:

The scent of the product is lightly perfumey, and smells wonderful to me. Here’s a before shot of my hair, pre product:

It looks pretty shiny before the spray, right? Here’s an after shot:

I can’t really tell if there’s any more lustre or shine after the spray. I might not see it, but I feel the difference. My hair is a bit easier to brush. My hair might not stay silky but it feels that way. You can see a bit more shine at my tips than you can in the first photo, I think.

Umberto Beverly Hills is a professional hair care collection sold at Target, and Shimmer Shine Spray is $8.99. It is described in a Target press release as a “miracle shine-booster that completes any hairstyle. The perfect remedy for sun-damaged and chemically abused hair. Shimmer is a non-greasy, high-sheen aerosol formula that adds instant shine and manageability to hair.”

The product also combats static and flyaways – which is a great help in colder weather, and has been so far that I’ve been using it, because I get static like crazy!

In addition to the Shimmer spray, the Umberto line includes four new brushes for blow-drying hair (small round #102, $9.99, short hair and medium round #103, $10.99, shoulder-length hair) and styling hair (oval #302 for smooth/shiny, $10.99 and the banana brush #201 for lift/volume, $9.99).

What do you think of Shimmer Shine Spray? Have you tried it?

Your hair is very shiny without the product. I do understand about wanting to brush through your hair without pulling. I use a spray shine also and I sprayed a bit too much and my hair felt so terrible!

Thanks, Lucy. Yes, I did that too! I looked like I hadn’t even washed my hair and it was freshly styled! LOL
